The offensive pass interference call on Kansas that cost them a critical first down late in the game versus Texas was referenced in Kansas head coach's post game conference. He came out and said there was one reason only for the call being made from the Texas side of the field. A BCS bowl bid and the money that comes along with it. I was happy to hear him say it. I totally agree. He will be heavily fined for saying it, but oh well. Stand up for what's right. It's just a damn shame.
It was not a bad call, he pushed off...but many receivers get away with that every game. It was a judgement call, and probably bad judgement from the ref in that situation. I seriously doubt that was going through his mind though - he's just a man trying to do his job.
I don't think he pushed off. The corner jammed him. I think the WR just sort of broke off of the jam, there was no push. Poor call.
Ahh, but watch the timing of the flag. It takes the ref 5 full seconds to throw the flag after the contact was made. I can promise you he only threw it AFTER he saw the Kansas receiver make the catch. I would look into that ref's checking account.
That was one of the lamest BS calls I've seen called in quite a while. Texas "caught" a huge break on that one. I won't speculate on the rationale outside of it just being a bad call by the ref, but it looks pretty fishy to me. I feel bad for Kansas in that one...they deserved to beat Texas today. I hope that A&M goes to Austin and kicks the shi# out of UT. UT reminds me of the Cubs in major league baseball...good talent, problems in the organization, and a bunch of F"ing whiners. GO TIGERS...GOOD WIN TONIGHT!!!!
Actually, watching it live, I figured it was an offensive pass interference when I saw the flag. There were worse calls today--one of them helped us out. (Of course, AMAB didn't respond either, so you can't say it lost the game for them.) GEAUX TIGERS (Go to Hell, Ole Miss)
You had to know the apology was coming. And it just came. :nope: After seeing the play a couple of times, I'm not sure it was anything but a "judgement" call, maybe a little picky, but one of those calls that ain't gonna please. Probably one of those that would have been better not being called. Nonetheless, anything that generates criticism of the BCS is okay with me.
Once, when the subject of players being paid to shave points, bag or throw games, or purposefully influence the outcome of a game for illicit and/or gambling purposes, legendary Coach Bobby Knight said... "Ever wonder what would happen to the fabric of our sports culture if they found out referees and umpires were the ones on the take?" "Ever wonder why-in all of our sports history-there hasn't been any light shed on that subject?" "Interestingly enough, if you can answer either of these questions, you can answer them both." That's not verbatim, sort of a paraphrasement if you will on my part...Good food for thought, though...Made me think about sports differently forever after...
This is right on. It's degrading to the game and it is happening more and more in different major sports. Imagine if they started doing this with "dead-ball" fouls? I don't like the idea of waiting for the result. Either the play deserves a flag or it doesn't, especially in situations like that.
