Do you think J. Vincent might be feeling a sophomore jinx? Do you think defenses are keying in on him this year? I thought he would be w/the top RB's in the nation, stat wise. The guy, imo is still the man but his numbers are lower then expected. IM still waiting for a breakout game from him. I hope it happens against Georgia.
Well I think its got alot to do with defenses keying in on him and the fact that alley broussard is having a good year. Maybe with alley having a good year it will take some pressure off of JV and he can just run like he did last year. But I think you are right lilcrawdad25 about JV having a breakout game against Georgia.
I agree that he hasn't looked as impressive but he still is averaging somewhere around 5 yards per carry. Not too shabby.
I think that Saban told you all you needed to know about the problem w/Justin in the pre-season... He talked about how he has meetings with each and every player in the offseason to personally discuss their present and future with the Tigers... When he asked JV what his goals were, Vincent told him he wanted to rush for around 1,200 yards this season... THIS IS A TERRIBLE MINDSET. Coming into Justin's first year, he was moved to Safety, and responded that he did it because he, "wanted to help the team." The year after he gets SEC & Sugar Bowl MOP awards, he's got stars in his eyes. He needed to stay humble...I mean...What if we had a rash of injuries, and we had to move him back out there to Safety? Where do you guys think his mindset would be? I sure don't think JV-judging from Saban's story-would be happy about it in any way at all. We want players who want to contribute to overall team success....and I think Justin needed to re-evaluate what that means and how it relates to individual accomplishments. I think Justin didn't work hard in comparison to Alley Broussard & even Joseph Addai in the offseason, because marked improvement is apparent from both of those, and while Vincent is still excellent, he hasn't developed at their pace. I also think that Shyrone ran with a determination, and a sense of urgency that hasn't been on display from Vincent all year. Just my $0.02, but JV isn't the #1 back, and if I had to rank them in terms of my personal opinion... 1.) Addai 2.) Broussard 3a.) Hester 3b.) Carey 5.) Vincent Addai has ripped off hard charging, head down and excellent cut back type runs all year...and Broussard runs like a man possessed whose shed 10-15 pounds and put on more muscle. They-along with Hester & Carey-all are running with a sense of urgency. I can't say that about the guy I ranked 5th...
I think he has played pretty well, but the expectations set for him were a bit unrealistic. The defenses are not having to respect the passing game like they did last year and the right side of the Offensive Line is new. In particular, I didn't think he had any holes against OSU. I do think that both Broussard & Addai have made progress from last year, and have closed the gap on JV a bit. He's still a great player, and I hope you are right that he breaks out against UGA. If not, I wouldn't be surprised to see Broussard get a lot of work. Whoever is at RB, we will have to hit some passes to loosen up the UGA defense, because I'm sure they'll be keying on the run.
Alright TE, here is my list 1. Broussard 2. Addai 3. Vincent 4. Carey 5. Hester I could flip flop 2 and 3 but I think Addai is running better. Vincent will get more carries than Addai though..
I don't think he's jinxed at all. Remember, he didn't do much during the first half of the season last year, then went on a tear. This isn't directed at you specifically, but I don't understand all of the concern over JV's performance thus far considering we have a slew of very talented RB's on our depth chart that are ALL capable of having huge games. We're fortunate to be in a position with our running game, that offers us the ability to NOT have to count on ONE, sole running back to get the job done. :thumb: Our running game isn't going down the tubes, nor struggling. JV's averaging roughly about 4.6 yards per carry (I believe--but I do know it's over 4 yards a carry). Doesn't sound like a "jinx" to me. :nope: I don't mind having 2 runnings backs rushing for 60-70 yards each during a game, and another one adding 30 yards or so. Sounds like a healthy running game to me... :thumb: :geaux:
TigerEd, you certainly are entitled to your opinion, but I think it is a bit harsh with regards to JV. I do agree that AB & JA have improved more than JV. However, I don't think it is fair to JV to question his committment to the team. Everything I've ever read about him has described him as a very team oriented guy. I don't have a problem with him setting a goal in terms of rushing yards, because after last year I think he's safe in assuming he's not moving to defense. When he was asked to move to DB last Spring he gave it his best shot. He also did a nice job on Special Teams last year before he became a starter. I think he's a high character guy, but he might be suffering a slight sophomore slump.
He is still getting 4.6 yards a pop despite seeing a defender in the backfield everytime he touches the ball. He can still pick up a blitz better than Broussard and he can still catch the ball better out of the backfield than Broussard. But, yeah, lets put him 5th on the depth chart because he wants 1,200 yards. Nice thinking.
I agree, Addai is a hard runner and seems to have gotten the fumbles out of his system. 2nd and 3rd efforts every time he carries, JMO but Addai would get the lions share with Broussard close behind
