Ten years ago we had just concluded the darkest period in LSU football history after another disastrous season under Curley Hallman. We hired Gerry DiNardo from Vanderbilt who immediately promised to "Bring the Magic Back" in 1995 with more night games and home whites. I still have one of the paper promo schedules for that year. He did for a time with 26-9 records in his first three seasons. We were happy, giddy really, with a trip to Shreveport (back when it was still the Poulan-Weed Eater Independence Bowl, which has to be the worst sponsor/bowl name combo ever). I was a 21 year old junior running up a hefty credit card debt by drinking beer by the yard at the Chimes. I also managed to narrowly escape going to jail in Krotz Springs on the way to that Independence Bowl as a result of being pulled over for speeding while other unlawful behavior was occurring in my pickup truck. I still think the trooper gave me a break that day by looking the other way. Now, we are one year away from an NC, have two SEC championships in four years (were one play away from the championship game in the two other years), and are at the top of recruiting each year. Lots of stuff to be positive about, because we know the other end of the spectrum pretty well too. :lsug:
Well saying we are one year "away" implies we haven't won it yet. So we are one year removed (technically as of Jan 4th, I'll give you that one).
