This will not be a popular opinion on this board but this years team is the most untalented LSU baseball team I have seen in 15 years. I know the players have to play but I put all this on the shoulders of Smoke. I know others blame Turtle Thomas but Smoke has the final authority on who is on his coaching staff. If we don't have a stable of players ready to go next year, LSU baseball will only get worst before it gets better. We have know lost 5 SEC Tourney games in a row and have only scored 7 runs (3-0-1-2-1) in those games. I know the SEC Tourney doesn't mean crap but I remember the days when LSU used the Tourney to propell them into the regionals. LSU is know 0-9 in Tourney style play that has more than four teams in the tournament. The sub-regionals are so watered down these days that it is not extremely hard to get past them especially when you have home field advantage every year. I hope the tigers win both the sub and super regionals. I just don't believe teams fear LSU like they use to. I remember the days when we use to make other teams aces look like they don't belong on the mound. Sorry for the rant but this is the only time of the year I really get to watch LSU baseball in person and this is two years in a row that they have gone 0-2. Sorry for my rant but just had to get this off my chest. LSUDAN
I'm glad you got to go to the game and I'm sure you are disappointed in the performance to say the least. But please do not forget that we made it to the championship game in the tourney in 2003 under Smoke as well. I hate cliches but you can't win them all. I also applaud you for wishing the tigers well in the Regionals. I hope they come around as well however I refuse to blame one individual for the actions (or in this case lack there of-) of 9 college athletes.
LSUDAN, listening to OTT and Buddy most days all year long, and basically last year too, I hear guys calling and talking about the inconsistency of LSU baseball is because of parity in the league and just college baseball in general. They add how Skip and LSU winning raised the talent level in the league and now the competition is better and we basically created a monster by success. IMO, the competition throughout the league is worse than it was in the 90s. Miss. State, Georgia, Florida, Bama, Arkansas has had much better teams than they have had the last 2 or three years. Our wins are staying the same and we got to the CWS. But in seeing our teams since 2000 and 2001, we just do not have the overall TALENT that we were getting in the 90s. There are no Furniss', Larsons, Walkers etc etc. The talent level's are no where close to where they once were and the reason we aren''t getting wiped out in the SEC is the other teams aren't as good as they were either. And unless we bring in some players like Wonder Larson for next year, the 2005-06 team may be the least talented in years.
That's a lame, bogus excuse. If that were true, then how is it that Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, et. al., never manage to fall back to the pack in basketball?
I agree. When I look at the league today in baseball, hell in basketball too, the SEC was much tougher in both sports in the 90s than they are now. Don't know the reason but it's true.
lol. Dan Canevari is the head coach of the Southeastern Lions baseball team. What would he be doing in Birmingham year-round? Why would he only get to see LSU games when they take place at the Hoover Met? Dissed and dismissed.
