Went to Columbia for the baseball game. Had a good time, was pleasantly surprised by the outcome, and the P&G nation was well-represented. Bradford pitched a GREAT game, and Waguespack made one of the most spectacular catches I've ever seen to end the game. Even the USC fans were a little in awe of that. Too bad this Tigah team is a little light in the hitting department, because most of the other stuff is there: solid starting pitching, great hustle at all times, good attitude, good defense. I would like to see the boys a little more aggressive at times at the plate, but we have a chance tomorrow to take the first SEC series. How I'd love to see that against one of the best teams in the country, AT THEIR PLACE. GEAUX TIGAHS!!!!!!
I thought we swung the bats well today. It was nice to hear and LSU chant while I was watching the game. It looked like there was a decent amount of Tiger fans at the game.
Looks Like Mainieri knows they are lacking in some areas and is working the problem. I found it interesting that the pitching coach is out recruiting while the team is playing, hopefully it will pay off. http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/6559402.html
The only qualm I have about CPM is that he seems to leave his pitchers in a bit too long. Granted, it's to build confidence; but man, oh man they almost let one slip past them yesterday! Starting pitching is about as solid as I can remember from LSU. They just need to develop better relief pitching. Defense doesn't seem to make stupid mistakes. Mitchell is one HELL of an athlete. Tigers pounded the ball yesterday and found a way to win even with the wind blowing out strong to left ALL game long. I thought for sure SC would pound some balls, and they did. The score was A LOT closer than the game indicated, but LSU still got lucky SC didn't get a couple more hits here or there. Great confidence builder regardless of what happens today. If LSU plays the way they did yesterday all season long, book your flight to Omaha.
a good chance this game doesnt finish if a few runs are scored. forrest isnt the fastest worker and no inning can begin after 1:45 due to that travel rule. first pitch 11:03 but they arent waiting for tv breaks so the jumbo broadcast will likely miss a lot of pitches. so it might make it. yesterday should give the entire team a boost of confidence minus coleman.
Well as far as pitch count, he's doing fine, but when a pitcher looks tired and starts suffering, I don't know. But, I guess he knows his pitchers better than I. It probably also has a lot to do with our starting pitching being so good and our relief kinda suckin'. Thank God, however, that CPM didn't pull him sooner or Coleman would have earned a big, fat "L."
If you watched Sundays game you saw why he leaves his starters in, like you said the relief kind of sucks to say the least. There is a ton of work to do rebuilding this team and he has his work cut out for him.
