1. This doesn't make sense. We are so far ahead of the rest of the world in R&D dollars that we could not invest any new R&D money for a decade and second place would not get to half of what is spent here.

And how would this contribute to a trade deficit?

Even if it does some sort of economic harm do you want to live in a country that views people as body farms. The destruction of one life to save another is not altruistic. It is demented.

What a bunch of bunk. The secular case against embyonic stem cell research is full proof. It requires killing people, and needlessly.

    1) Most researchers feel there are no advances that can be made from embryonic stem cells that cannot be made from adult and umbilical stem cells. There is no need to destroy embryos to reap the benefits of stem cell research.

    2) Embryonic stem cell research denies the civil rights of people. Embryos are not partial humans, almost human, or globs of mung. Genetically they are fully human with unique DNA that is distinct from either the mother or the father.
  2. Really? Please name one, just ONE, benefit that has been realized from embryonic stem cells. ASC are being used for dozens and dozens of treatments with good results.

  4. Thanks guys. I just didn't have the energy.
  5. These fking liberals kill unborn babies like they are just so much garbage. Once they are born though, it's Katy bar the door; entitlements galore. 8 Kids, no job? No problem.
  6. Like many other liberal ideals, it seems contradictory doesn't it?
  7. Stem cell research has nothing to do with killing babies. Entitlements, 8 kids, no job, what does that have to do with research? Nothing. In fact, adding unwanted babies just adds more to the welfare rolls.

It's just typical republican anti-science. This is as bad as the religious kook's excuse for ignoring medical research, which is not worth answering.
  8. i swore to myself i would not post in this thread because this is an issue that i cannot look at with detachment. however, this perspective needs to be brought.

it has been portrayed as "liberal baby killing". but i would like to dispel that notion with this view point. no one is considering where the embryos came from. they came from (mostly) childless couples struggling to make a dream come true, and are taking what is the extreme medically to do so. it is likely after years of trying to conceive, trying every lessor treatment under the sun, and spending tens of thousands of dollars on medical treatments not covered by insurance. these are people that know heart ache many cannot understand that comes with the quest to have a biological child. if any of you think these people are "baby killers" or dont care about what happens to their unused embryos, you need to visit the wizard for a heart.

when one undergoes invitro fertilization treatment, one of the things they have to do before any treatment is given is to sign a for stating what will happen to any unused embryos that may be produced. those choices are:

    ethically destroyed
    donated to medical science
    donated to another couple

some of you may look at this list and say "easy decision", "no brainer" etc. unless you have been in this position, you dont know. trust me. it is incredibly hard and just that decision takes an emotional toll.

i wont go into the part about the invitro process itself and what it does emotionally an physically. but it isnt pretty. in fact, it is hell. anyone who is willing to put their, or their spouses, body through it is going to the extreme in attempts to have a child. these are the last people on earth that are "liberal baby killers".

    that is all.
  9. I'm not going to get into the issue of stem cells but I do have a question. I noticed the Obama administration is appealing the injunction. This is the second time they've done this (drilling moratorium). Is this common for an administration to fight so many legal battles? I don't recall it in the past but maybe I just wasn't paying attention.
  10. For me, this debate isn't about the embryos, the research, or the harm done by the destroying of the embryos, as it was put by the judge. My problem is using federal tax dollars in this research. Maybe if we weren't in a recession and we weren't wasting money on other things and everyone wanted to do it, I'd feel differently. But right now, I don't see the point in funding this with tax dollars. The private sector will do it if they see any possibility in profit, and do it much better than the federal government.
