Updated: Feb. 1, 2006, 12:13 PM ET Russell likely to miss start of LSU spring practice Associated Press BATON ROUGE, La. -- A month after LSU closed out the year with a 40-3 rout of Miami in the Peach Bowl, injuries are still hurting the team. Quarterback JaMarcus Russell most likely will miss the start of spring practice, but should be able to start throwing the football toward the end of March and participate at the spring scrimmage or game, coach Les Miles said. Russell is recovering from two injuries: he injured his right wrist against Florida on Oct. 15 at Tiger Stadium and the separated his left shoulder in the SEC championship game against Georgia on Dec. 3 at the Georgia Dome. The shoulder injury kept the sophomore from attending the Peach Bowl. Running backs Justin Vincent and Alley Broussard continue to show progress while rehabbing similar knee injuries. Broussard, who tore ligaments in LSU's initial August scrimmage, suffered a setback when his knee became infected after surgery. Miles is uncertain whether Broussard will participate in the spring but expects him to be ready for fall camp. Vincent tore a ligament in his right knee in the SEC championship game and had surgery in January. He will sit out spring practice. Offensive linemen Will Arnold, Brett Helms and Ryan Miller are expected to be close to, if not fully, recovered from late-season injuries when spring practice begins in early March. Does anyone know just how serious this injury is?
At least this is good news. Man it's tough losing our top two backs for the spring, especially if Keiland Williams doesn't arrive with some serious talent. At least the line shoud be healthy for Fall. I just don't know about Russells injury. I've heard everything from "the surgery will fix a problem that hindered his passing last year" to "this type of surgery has a low history of complete success".
I think the wrist injury was/is more of a concern considering he had surgery on it & it was to his throwing arm. The shoulder injury did not require surgery and is to his non throwing shoulder.
