Actually, a snake is a more decent creature.

Earlier this evening I witnessed McCain on "Hardball" say to Chris Matthews that it was understandable Rove leaked Valerie Plame's identity because Joseph Wilson was spreading a lot of lies.

That's so wrong on so many counts that it will be a wonder if that undignified puke can sleep tonight.

This man who has his sights on the presidency just condoned breaking the law, outing an undercover CIA operative, compromising national security, and demolishing a WMD tracking operation while 1770 of our young people have died in Iraq on an anti-WMD premise. For the record, not even Bush has said it's "understandable" that somebody in his Administration outed Valerie Plame.

Furthermore, where were Wilson's lies? The very State Department memo from which Rove and Libby apparently learned Plame's identity said precisely what Wilson had been saying: that the African uranium claim was bogus, and that there was no credible evidence Saddam had sought to purchase any or that he had any sort of nuclear program. Additionally, the White House would go on to admit that the Niger claim in Bush's State of the Union address was a mistake, and George Tenet said it should never have been uttered.

So, once again, where were Wilson's lies?

Not only does McCain advocate violating national security laws, he also advocates smearing an honest man who had served this nation admirably in both Africa and Iraq. It was Wilson's brave diplomatic maneuvers against Saddam in 1991 that freed 150 American hostages Saddam had planned to use as human shields. It was because Wilson was trusted by James Baker and Bush Sr. that he was asked to go on his fact-finding mission to Africa.

Why is McCain "undignified"? I live here in South Carolina, where the Rove slime machine went into overdrive in 2000 painting McCain's wife as a loon and McCain as a philandering adulterer with a bastard child. I witnessed the sleaze. And then I witnessed McCain in 2004 throw away his dignity and self-respect by embracing the sleaze merchant at the Republican Convention. This man is so hard-up for the presidency he doesn't even mind kissing a slimeball's ass.

mccain is a miserable grandstanding jackass.

but he is not a "typical republican". in fact he likes to pretend to be a moderate and do his own thing all the time. you only classify him as a typical republican because you are blinded by your own silly hate of republicans.

Rex, the title of this thread is "John McCain: typical Republican snake." No where, in your entire ramble, did you explain what a "typical Republican snake was."

You've already explained your theory of how you think McCain is a "snake." But you never, anywhere, explained how that made it typical?

Or is that you are just trying to stir trouble with your typical "I want everyone to know that I am not a Republican" thread?

Actually, DallasLSU, you're correct in that my title doesn't fit my post. Nevertheless, I stand behind both the title and the post.

On a positive note, I find McCain to be an adept public speaker, who's inspiring, dramatic tone and rhetoric may land him in the white house--and that would be a monumental day for democrats, for here they could change the world.

Rex, I don't always agree with you here, but I love your characterization of McCain. The guy is a glory hound, and backing down with the Republicans that had run him through the sewer during the election was disheartening.

As for your post, I'm not exactly sure what Wilson was lying about. But I'm pretty sure McCain is a jackass (and due to his POW history, it pains me to say it.)

All politicians posture for the media and kiss enemy asses if it gains them something. Mc Cain is no different. There is just no profit in him piling on Rove. It won't make Roves situation any worse or better. I doubt if McCain has forgotten the way Rove slimed his war record in 2000. McCain is too clever to try to get payback now. He will get payback when he is holding all of the cards.

I would not be surprised to see McCain become a democrat or independent at some point during his career--if he feels he can get elected like that. He's a republican in name only--so while he may be a snake (I'm not a fan of his), he isn't a "typical Republican."

McCain, like all of Congress, loves to be a media darling. When he ran for Pres. and he was followed around by the press like he was the answer to all of this partinsanship in Washington, that gave him a taste and now he can't get enough. SNL host, movie star.........he loves it. He'll say or do anything to keep his tag of a break away Republican..........I have no problem with someone who breaks from the party line but somebody who does it because he wants to be liked by the media is a slimeball.

McCain passed up opportunities to be John Kerry's runnning mate and also to run as an independent. No, he'll stay a republican. There are a lot of pragmatic republicans out there who are not neo-con ideaologues and there are a lot of moderate democrats who do not favor a Dean-style candidate. McCain is counting on the big power vaccum in the middle to take votes from both sides.

No, McCain is a moderate republican.
