Something a friend of mine sent me....I am not trying to start any rumors, just curious if anyone else has heard any update on JF. Obviously, this was started at warchant....not sure of the exact source. _________________________________________________________ I've been told that Fisher and La. Tech talked pretty heavily on Thursday through the night. Contrary to what was reported on some websites, I'm hearing he's their top choice right now. In fact, according to one of our sources, he has a job offer on the table that he is considering it right now. The only thing holding him back is the FSU OC job, which has apparently been offered. However, what I'm hearing is that he is leaning to taking the La Tech job because of his desire to be a head coach. He believes he can turn the program around enough to make himself a tempting HC candidate for a major program, preferably an SEC school, down the road. I've heard he's convinced that regardless of how well he does at FSU, he won't have the chance to take over when Bowden retires. So as of this moment, and things can change quickly, it looks there's a good chance he will take the La Tech job. I suspect we will know something for sure in a day or two - at least by Monday. 11pm Update Now I'm hearing that Fisher's wife is pushing him to take the FSU job since jobs like La Tech are a dime a dozen. She was impressed that Bowden flew out there to meet personally with him (not sure if the meeting was in Louisiana or Birmingham). I honestly don't know how this is going to turn out but it seems like every time it looks like Fisher going one way I get a new update that something is pushing him back the other way. I honestly believe if he is undecided and his wife really wants him to go to FSU that's where he'll end up (at least based on my experience being married )
I don't think it would be wise to take any job where one of your main objectives is to go on the road to be fodder for a bigger program looking to pad a won-loss record. Much like the North Texas job, make a couple of million to support the other programs and in 4 or 5 years they will find another coach. Yeah, go on the road to play Nebraska, aTm, and Clemson, hope you can survive with 5 or 6 home games a year. Chances of improving your marketability is nil.
Dandy D mentioned yesterday that they were looking hard at Jimbo but I haven't seen anything confirmed yet. IMO La Tech would be a big step down but he would have full control of the offense.
Have you heard anything, or is that your gut feeling? Maybe I should get out of the boondocks once in a while, because this is the only place I get any info like this.
I agree. I'm not sure you can be successful there and if you're not, you won't get a chance to coach a big time program; especially when all of the blue chippers will mostly likely be sgining with LSU. Same could be said about the UAB job and competing with AU/Ala for recruits as well, I guess.
I agree. Going to a school that is everyone elses cup-cake doesn't further your career unless you are able to recruit a few dynamite players and are able to upset a couple of teams in that year. The odds of that are very very slim so a bigger conference would be preferred where you can try and win the conference each year without having to be somebodies red headed step child. Did I read that right, that Jimbo was considering the FSU OC job? You have got to kidding me. If he even thought about that job, then good riddance.I hope Jimbo stays though. I think having the same playbook for JR (if he stays) and the RB's and WR's would be beneficial for a SEC championship. Hopefully he would come up with more plays and mix up the plays more or if it is Miles gripping the playbook too tight that Miles would let Jimbo open it up more.1st things first, don't take ND lightly and kick the crap out of them please.
I will say that i'm 100% sure Jimbo either stays at LSU or goes somewhere else but not Tech. Paper in Monroe said that negotiations went ice cold on friday and there have been no further contacts with him, but that the President and AD have been negotiating recently with TE coach for the Dolphins Derek Dooley.
No one, nobody, not a soul will win year in and year out at LA. Tech. They play about three home games. They have lost much of their loyal fan base. They compete with ULM, Northwestern, even Grambling (1-AA), and they have burned a lot of bridges. Both basketball programs are in a down swing as well. They travel far and wide to play lower tier schools and can't compete with them year in and year out. Fisher would be taking a huge step down to take that head job.
