www.palmbeachpost.com LSU's Fisher might take over FSU's offense By Tom D'Angelo Palm Beach Post Staff Writer Monday, December 18, 2006 Florida State may have cleared the final hurdle in its pursuit of LSU's Jimbo Fisher as its next offensive coordinator. The hiring of Dolphins tight ends coach Derek Dooley as Louisiana Tech's new coach clears the way for Fisher, also a candidate for the job, to join the Seminoles' staff. Dooley will be introduced today according to Dolphins head coach Nick Saban. Fisher, according to several sources and media reports, has been Bobby Bowden's top candidate to replace his son, Jeff, as offensive coordinator. Jeff Bowden, who also coached receivers, resigned Nov. 14. Fisher, though, was a strong candidate to fill the head coaching vacancies at Louisiana Tech and Alabama-Birmingham, and was linked to the openings at Cincinnati and North Carolina State. All four positions have been filled. Bowden, according to reports, flew to Fisher's home to conduct an interview. Read the rest . . .
I would think that Miles has no problem with this and it's a mutual parting of ways. I wonder who Miles has in mind to step in?
On the first page of the TF forum, there are 5 threads concerning Jimbo and his destination. There's at least one more on page two. He's been linked to every available job in the country this month, and none of them have panned out. And we're worried about MEDIA SPECULATION??? I heard Jimbo is going to be the new Falcons head coach after l'il Mora gets fired for coveting the non-vacant U of Washington job.:thumb:
Well, it did actually cross my mind but, you know, technically, the internet is a medium which is singular for media. :hihi: :thumb:
The only reason for Jimbo to make a lateral move is to be in position to replace Bobby Bowden in a couple of years. If they promise him the HC job, he might be tempted. But nothing is guranteed under these circumstances. It's a risk for Jimbo to make a lateral move and then not get offerd he head coach job. He thought he had earned a shot at Nicks job but he wasn't considered for lack of head coaching experience. He may hear the same excuse when Bowden retires. LSU hired Dan Radokovitch as assistant AD with the implied promise that he would replace Skip in a few years . . . only Skip never retired and eventually Dan moved along and became AD at Georgia Tech.
I'm just speculating. The FSU job rumor seems to have legs. There has always been talk of Miles reining Jimbo in, so, if true that he's considering the lateral transfer, it stands to reason that it would be to get away from Les. I was just thinking out loud.
It could be, but I haven't heard anything about a feud, just grumbling from fans. I mean Jimbo butted heads with Nick, too and he might just do the same with Bowden. It comes with being a coordinator--you have a boss who occasionally overrules you. Every head coach does it. Plus it's time for Jimbo to move up and he knows it. He could have taken the Tech job or the Mississippi State Job. There is a head coaching job out there for him. LSU has a better chance than FSU of being a BCS contender nest year. Very high-profile for Jimbo and a better springboard than FSU. No, . . . if Jimbo takes the OC at FSU, there is a promise wrapped around it. A promise to be head coach within two years. Anything else and Jimbo is spinning his wheels.
My only concern for Jimbo taking the FSU OC position, with the promise of getting the HC job when Bowden retires, is WHEN is Bowden going to retire. Does Bowden have an inside as to when JoePa is going to hang up his glasses? Has the broken leg got Bowden feeling confident that JoePa can't catch him? The only way that Bowden retires is: 1. JoePa retires 2. JoePa dies 3. Bowden suffers a significant head trauma, or 4. Bowden dies. Bowden will not shut it down until he knows JoePa can't get his record.
