Jimbo tends to run a balanced, borderline-conservative offense, sure. But here's why they don't fun-and-gun it, as it seems many frustrated Tiger fans want:

The bottom line is that LSU does not have great skill players on offense. I would argue that the current starters at running back and wide receiver aren't even good. Justin is slow, can't hit open holes, and hasn't busted a long one all year. Plus he's got fumbleitis. Then there are the Tiger receivers, whom you can count on to catch only every other pass or so.

Jimbo knows what he's got at his skill positions: an improving quarterback still prone to mistakes, a lackluster rushing attack, and an undependable receiving corps. His goal each drive is to score, of course. But with a dominant defense and great special teams, he also reasonably wants to manage down and distance, have good time of possession, and not let our subpar skill players make game-changing bungles deep in their own territory.

The Tigers are not a great team. They are a good team that is very well coached. :tigerhead

No, this can't be so... Just look at all those recruiting stars! Plus, collegefootballnews says we have the most talented receivers & running backs so you're wrong!

In all seriousness, I believe that the game day coaching has been very good this season. Our coaches must take some of the blame for not having our players ready though.

I agree... but to the above post, I think we have a lot of talent and a lot of skill players when we click...

Just look at Bama... we scored 16, should have been about 24 points on one of the better defenses out there in a half by spreading it out...

When we click and knock on all cylinders, it is something special... unfortunately, we don't do so often

In my humnble opinion I would say that some of the play calling has been questionable but would hestitate to say Jimbo is "THE" problem.

I also have to say that coaches don't cause fumbles to happen, interceptions to be thrown or penalties. If the players can't execute the plays and sustain drives with minimal penalties then our offense is doomed to be anemic.

We appear to have a lot of skill but lack the consistency to put it all together.

At times the offense looks good and in those short bursts where it clicks, it can be quite impressive.

I look for things to improve this saturday. I think there will be fire and a focus for the team to come together and really put on a spectacular game across the board.

Look out Dawgs cause here we come!!

We have a young QB who is far from perfect, but really is quite impressive for a sophmore. We knew all along that his development would be a process, as it is with all quarterbacks. I think the coaches' have done a good job getting him to where he is right now & have done it in a reasonable amount of time.

However, he has been limited by our wide receivers & now our crippled running attack. We may need to look at replacing the WR coach for next season. I don't know what the deal is with them. They should be more polished by now. They have easily been the biggest dissapointment of the season. We've got some good plays to get them the ball, but if they don't run the right route or catch the ball, then it doesn't matter.

With the loss of Broussard & the injury to Addai, our running game was due to take a big hit. Our coaches have done a good job keeping the running game going despite these problems.

"Coaching" has not been a problem at all this season. Coaching has been terrific. Player development is the problem this team is having. I don't think that is Miles' fault because these same players weren't developed last year under Saban.

I think you've just commited blasphemy... or is it "Blast From Me" when others read your post??

Actually, I find much to agree with in your thoughts. As a complete outsider, who has watched every LSU game this year as a way of following the SEC, my observations would be quite similar.

LSU is 10-1... ranked #3 or #4 depending on the poll. This is a very good football team, but perhaps not a great one. The press has done an injustice talking about the 5 star talent, blazing speed, etc. on this team.... but it seldom shows up, on offense anyway, during the games. For the most part, LSU didn't look anymore talented than the other top schools they played. Out of conference, they sure didn't out-talent or out-speed Arizona State.

My take on JR is he is one hell of a specimen, but he can't pass like Leinert or run like Young. He is a good, if somewhat streaky QB, who has a strong arm with a slow release. As much as I read on here that Reggie Bush would just be another average back in the SEC, I would disagree. Skyler Green is a very elusive kid... but he is not Reggie Bush... no one on the LSU team has stepped up to be "Reggie Bush" this year.

On the coaching, I think anytime you get your team through a season either undefeated or 11-1, it's pretty damn hard to find fault with the coaches. Those posters who do find fault with the coaches are probably the same group that believed everything they read about the talent level at LSU being head and shoulders above everyone else. There are a lot of very talented football teams. Pollsters say you are the 3rd or 4th best... I'll buy that.

If it was my team, I'd be quite happy.:thumb:

With the exception of some dropped passes, I'm pretty happy with our WR's. They've done more good for us this season than bad. I do agree that our RB depth isn't there though. Alley Brousard is an excellent back and the rest are decent. Russell has improved tremendously and I think he'll be a Heisman contender next year.
