The two TE's, FB, HB, 1 WR sets are too freaking obvious. We run way too much out of these. Its time to spread it out and use the speed. HOWEVER, i am glad you woke up in the second half yesterday. I was tired of seeing the run on first, run on second, throw on third crap. See what JR can do when you let him sling it down the field?
guy, I am afraid this offense is wide open. Sorry. I was a believer in all that team speed crap, but after last nite I know Bama was faster at a lot of positons.... JR won this game..
yeah man...our team speed sucks, our OC sucks, CLM sucks, the win sucked, being 8-1 sucks.........:dis:
He makes a great point. Anyone else with this much speed at the wideout would be exploiting it. Anyone know the last time an LSU receiver ran a fly pattern? The obvious running formations are dull and ineffective. I prefer running the ball out of a spread offense with your QB in the shotgun, delayed handoffs, misdirections, etc....like we did with Mauck. What the hell happened with that?
i think they will open it up more now, BUT that may not be the way to go if JR isnt protected. on 90% of the passes he wasnt pressured. that should be a piece of cake for any decent qb. if JR is getting hit, the odds of turnovers greatly increase as we have already seen this year. plus we could run little on bama. if lsu can run on ark and ole miss there is less reason to open it up. its short-sided to say "Jimbo opened up the O and LSU won, so LSU should do that on every drive".
Did you watch the game? the whole 2nd half on 2nd and 3rd downs, we were in spread shotgun... We scored 10 pts, could have easily been 16, in a HALF against the best defense in America
It's a little late in the season to say we're gonna open it up more...that's something you say after 2 games.....it is what it is...and I know it's because it's what Miles wants.....not sure why...cuz he was wide ass open at OSU, and we have better talent....that's the part that boggles my mind. JR for the most part has gotten excellent protection.....definitely not the reason we don't go deep.
You just made my point for me......when we opened it up, we scored 10 points...but review the 4th quarter, it was back to the way we did things in the first half...when we laid a goose-egg on the board...and lo and behold we scored exactly zero points in the 4th quarter. It made absolutely no sense to go back into a shell in the 4th quarter when we were getting close to field goal range. 4 times starting inside the 50 and no points in the 4th quarter?
we didn't "go in the shell" We missed 2 of our FGs IN the fourth quarter... The end of the game, we were just trying to have the ball last... Which is something 100% of coaches would do in that situation
i dont care if we run a fly pattern or not, i just dont want to see anymore draw plays on 3rd and long like in the first half. with that said i think it was a well called game. they have a great defense and we were able to move the ball on them just enough to a W. And a W is what is most important, spread offense or not.
