Has anyone heard anymore of this? It has been all over the news and sports talk radio in Mississippi that Jimbo is on campus in Starkville interviewing for the head coaching position for the dawgs.
I wouldn't read too much into it. Jimbo is a professional and interviews like this help his future possibilities. Just being interviewed for a Head Coach position with an SEC school looks good on one's resume. Jimbo knows the weapons LSU has assembled (he should, he's helped bring them in) and knows what he can accomplish here over the next few years. After the rest of the country witnesses what LSU is going to do with the amount of talent we have Jimbo will probably be able to get a very high profile HC position anywhere in the country.
a link to the Clarion Ledger is below. However, now I am hearing that it the rumor is not true. Anyone have any hard facts? Jimbo to MSU?!?
Thanks Brett. My second post was before I read you response. It seems that Gene Swindoll is saying it was not true. I would like to see this group of coaches stick around awhile and see what happens.
I think it would be advantagous for MSU to hire a black coach. He would be the first black head coach in the SEC and I beleive that could help recruiting some since the facilities don't exist in Starkville. Having a black coach will cause some kids to go there instead of going to Miami, FSU, Florida, etc.. and being a marginal player that never sniffs the field.
My understanding of Jimbo is that he is a very difficult person to get along with for players and coaches and does not have the personal skills to be a head coach. I am not saying he will never be a head coach anywhere, but I have spoken with former players (not from LSU) who don't see him being a head coach. Of course, this is only their opinion, but players know better than you or I.
I don't know about that, everybody can't get along with everybody and Sabin thinks very highly of him, why do you think he is (still?) the highest paid assistant coach in the SEC?
Why would Jimbo want the job at MSU? He would have to recruit and coach against Saban every season!!! Not good! If I were him, I would head out of the SEC. Somewhere like Georgia Tech or Clemson (not those particular schools, just someone of that caliber).
Y'all are dumb. Do you actually think that our offensive coordinator would not take a head coaching job in the SEC and the pay increase that goes along with it to remain an OC. Get serious. Who knows what the future holds? Saban could leave after this season, and the new coach could want to bring in his own guy. Then, Fisher is on the street. The idea that an OC would not take a HC job in the SEC is so ridiculous.
