29 yr. old Jeff Capel would make a great head coach at LSU, in my opinion. He is 41-17 at Virginia Commonwealth in two years and 23-7 this year. Currently the Rams are playing a very good Wake Forest team very very tight and have been leading much of the day. He's got tons of emotions and he's known winning his entire career, as he came from Duke.
I agree 100 % Not because he's a Dukie, though, because that might be a curse more than a blessing. But he's young, articulate, energetic, and his teams are very sound. He gets the most out of his talent. I like the way he comports himself as well. Definitely on my short list.
Tom Izzo John Calipari Both proven winners. We have one of the premier athletic departments in the nation, so don't think we couldn't land one of these two if we tried. All it would take is a little commitment on Skip's part to improving facilities.
Let's have a thread started every time they show a coach from a small conference school that is hanging with a big dog. :dis:
I have gotten really good at NCAA Basketball 2004. I can drain 3's with Shaq (Yes I added him to the game) and if someone can teach Shaq how to hit 3 pointers I have to be a great coach ??? No... Anyone ??? It will be tough to get a proven winner down here unless we shell out the big bucks and lets be honest the well runneth dry with Saban around. Also LSU really needs to step up its commitment to Basketball in facilities alone. Lets be honest Basketball plays 3rd fiddle to Football and Baseball. I am not on the Fire Brady bandwagon for the record. I am still on the fence (I know I need to poop or get off the pot) just throwing in my 2 pennies. Although we seem to have pretty good success with Michigan State coaches. Maybe we can complete the circle
What about Matt Painter? That guy can coach too, he and Capel would be good choices for young, up and coming (and relatively cheap), good coaches.
My vote would go with Bobby Gonzales coach for Manhattan. I was listening to him on ESPN radio after they pounded Florida. He was describing their defensive gameplan, which I thought was brillant -take Roberson out the game and defend the three line. You could hear the emotion when he talked and is very respected in the basketball community.
