I heard Jamarcus (new recruit from Mobile) will start at the half way point of the season. They sayd he has the most poise and talent of a high school player coming into College..........I just don't know how he will do with 91,600 fans yelling!? :geaux:
I'm very excited to have JaMarcus but dont write Matt Flynn off yet. He hasnt gotten the hype but his high school footage was unreal. I considered it and the footage from Shawn Jordan to be the best clips of the bunch. Of course there is always a crazy adjustment periood when these players get in the SEC but it will be interesting to see to say the least.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy as all "get-up" that he's (JaMarcus) a Tiger...but to state that he'll start at mid-season is, in my opinion, a bit off. Mauck is still the incumbent starter....Russell is the student. What if Mauck is haven't an All-SEC year?? You gonna bench him? Of course not. I won't make predictions/observations as to who's going to be the starting QB at "x" game this season....I'll take it one game at a time. If Mauck regains his form that he displayed last season and in the SEC championship game vs Tennessee 2 seasons ago, then we shouldn't be worried about who's going to start by midseason. However, if Mauck is struggling, and JaMarcus is ready to assume the starting role, I wouldn't argue one bit about giving Russell his opportunity.
I want Mauck to start not Russell.......that kids got game but Mauck has experience.....I bet you we will see him (Jamarcus) play in the 3rd or 4th quarter of the first game against UL monroe
Realistically, I'm thinking he'll get his first "game action" vs Tech. The game is in the middle of the season (if I'm not mistaken), giving JaMarcus weeks of learning and watching. Look for Randall to enter the game vs. ULM should it be out of hand--and, I don't see why it wouldn't already be decided by halftime. I think Randall will get the "mop-up duties" early in the season as it was inexperience and inconsistancy that plagued him last season.
If think if they play him after the third game he can't be redshirted. I think this is NCAA rule, am I correct.
You might be correct, but I was under the assumption that they could dress--but the minute they set foot on the field and took a single snap, then they lost their redshirt for the year...
There is little point in redshirting the best players. If Russell is everything they say he is, including the ego they say he has, he'll be leaving early for the NFL anyway. Redshirting him would just cost us a year of his time.
When Mauck comes out you can bet its going to be randall that goes in first. Both these freshmen are too good to throw in the fire and lose any confidence or risk injury until they are 100 percent without a doubt ready to play. These guys are long term investments not quick fixes. That is not to say that if we have lost a couple and mauck and randall are both hurt or not playing well they may get a chance to play because they have to.
I bet Saban will try to redshirt both Russell and Flynn unless he really needs them. Saban is a smart cookie he is wanting groom these QB's for the future.
