Does anybody have any info. on this kid? I know he was the Alabama player of the year and we re-shirted him, but I've been hearing rumors that he's the next Michael Vick. Big expectations, for sure, but if he's anything like Vick, then the news keeps getting better and better. What's his story?

Saw him on the sidelines right next to Saban. Also saw him celebrating. He looked like a little kid who just hit the candy lottery! I think Saban will make sure to get him some playing time next year EARLY on.

No Michael Vick. He runs a 4.7 but likes to stay in the pocket. He does roll with the pocket very well and is incredibly capable at throwing on the run, but tries not to scramble. Has an incredibly strong arm and a very tight spiral. He was at the Elite 11 QB Camp and had the highest score at reading opposing defenses. He's a stud and so is Matt Flynn out of Tyler Lee H.S.

Right now, Flynn is ahead of Russell for one reason.

Flynn is smarter than Russell. He already fully understands the offense, and if Mauck decides to leave Flynn WILL be the starter come spring time.

JaMarcus is not a Michael Vick. He doesn't have the speed or running skills that Vick does but he is a better passer. A better comparison would probably be to Byron Leftwich.

from I gather, Flynn is picking up the system better than Russell. But as for the talent level, Russell hands down.

Good because I think the Michael Vick style is really silly. It makes for great highlights, but it Vick doesn't learn soon he's going to have many years like this last one. These guys are NOT running backs. I don't care how fast they are they do not prepare themselves to take hits in the way that a running back does.

I think the jury is out on both of them. Marcus Randall at 2nd string tells me that niether were as good as him thats my read. This is not a shot but Marcus didnt show me much last year or this tear in mop -up. Personaly I haope Mauk comes back. If Mauk leaves I'm sure Jimbo and Saban will have one of them ready to play.

Well timmyt, my read is that Saban didn't want to waste a year of eligibility on one of his prized frosh qb's on some mop up minutes againts La Tech.

I would not read anything into Randall being 2nd string this year. In case of a shirt term injury, why waste the redshirt year on a freshman when you have an experienced older guy on the roster. I think we would have seen one or both of the freshman if Mauck has been seriously injured this year.
