To me, the enlightening thing about this article and the fan responses is that people around the country are now very aware of LSU and it's strengths and weaknesses. There were excellent (pro and con) arguments from fans of other teams. The split championship thing is stale though. As time goes by and the BCS becomes entrenched in the minds of fans, the crystal football will be the only measure of a champion.
That article made me happy. He voted our boy number two in the OFFICIAL ballot? You know, all the talk of JR for Heisman went away after the Florida loss, but really and truly there is no difference between himself and Brady Quinn after that. Sure, Quinn had more TD passes, but only once did he save the day- and it was all his recieiver's doing (UCLA game). JR has, in his career, lost two games late, but won 5 in the same period- showing that he is a unstoppable force in the 4th quarter. When it comes down to it, sometimes sheer ability overcomes even the most ingenious playcalling, usually in the most desparate of situations. So Florida, Arizona State, Arkanasas (last year), Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tennesee, Auburn and Bama (last year)- all of those won late in the game, usually on the shoulders of our quarterback- all speak to the idea that JR is a better PLAYER than Brady Quinn, and should have been in the talk all along. I mean, isn't the Heisman the best PLAYER overall? Not the best player on the best team. Sure, Troy Smith is great. But do I think he deserved it over McFadden? No. I hope JR comes back next year.
I agree. I think JR would have a leg up on everyone. McFadden will probobly win it though because I'm fairly sure JR won't be back. There's alot of people and organizations out there that college athletes rely on to weigh their probobility of being taken early in the draft and for the maximum amount of dollars. All of these bring JR in as the no.1 or no.2 quarterback to be taken this year if he declares. If he doesn't declare, there's too many "ifs" for JR to not go pro. One bad play can change your life, why chance it? LSU was lucky to have JR and we should be happy to have another of our players making the LSU legend continue. And JR has the tools to have an unbelievable PRO future. I want him back more than any LSU fan, but I'm a realist. Good luck JR. :geauxtige
