By the Columbus TD Club. Congrats to Russell!

    From LSUSports.net
BATON ROUGE -- LSU sophomore quarterback JaMarcus Russell was honored over the weekend by the Columbus (Ohio) Touchdown Club as he was named the 2005 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year by the organization.

Russell, who led the Tigers to a regular season mark of 10-2 and berth in the SEC Championship Game, threw for 2,443 yards and 15 touchdowns for the fifth-ranked Tigers. Russell missed LSU's 40-3 win over Miami in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl with an injured shoulder.

Russell led the Tigers to dramatic wins over Arizona State, Auburn, Florida and Alabama during the year. He also became the first quarterback in school history to lead the Tigers to wins over Auburn, Florida and Alabama in the same season.

"This is something that I'm very proud of," Russell said. "It's an honor, but this is an award that is a team award, one that should go to the entire team."

Russell was one of handful of college football players honored by the Columbus Touchdown Club last weekend. Others honored include Southern Cal's Reggie Bush as the National Player of the Year; Southern Cal's Matt Leinart as the Quarterback of the Year; and Joe Paterno as Coach of the Year.

That's a good honor, however, they must have not seen DJ Shockley play this year.

Happy for Russell, but he was in no way the player of the year in the SEC. Not even the best quarterback. Oh well!

It's a hell of an honor considering some of his OWN fans don't even think he's the #1 QB on his own team....

Russell is the man. Some people are never content. I trust the coaches to figure out who the best QB is.
