You are talking about the medical hardship waiver rule (medical redshirt) and I would agree. I was mentioning the rule for redshirts without injury.
Not true, the rule used to be that a freshman could play in the 1st 3 or 4 games. But if they played after that point a year of eligibility was used. There was also a % of snaps bylaw within the 1st 3 or 4 games. So if the player played the entire game or games during the 1st 3 or 4 games he may still have lost his redshirt eligibility that year. You are talking about the Medical Hardship Waiver rules which is also commonly called a medical redshirt. I am talking about the general freshman redshirt rule.
I thought TwistedTiger was talking about JJ getting a redshirt season for *this* year (if all charges and suspensions are dropped/he's exonerated)
Even if they did give him a redshirt, he would not play next year. I think Mett is the for sure Starter come 2012. Nothing personal against JJ, but I think his absence is one of the reasons the team is doing better. The RBs are doing all the running, .. and doing a dang good job of it. Lee/Mett have done well on the passing game, minus the few dropped passes in the UO game. .. and the O seems to be under control, as opposed to looking "lost". .. as was the case most of the time last year. This Thursday is a do or die moment for Lee. If he does well, has a reasonably high completion %, controls the game, and wins the game, he'll likely start the rest of the year. The predicted rain, if it does rain, is going to bode well for our power against MooU. I just don't think they can hang with us for 4qs in bull match situation. Ballard is no power runner. Losing the cut ability will hurt his running game, IMO.
They would only offer a redshirt if they planned on playing him. If not, they wouldn't take a scholarship from someone else. I have no clue if they plan on doing this or not.
For it to happen Jefferson would have to have charges dropped or win the case in court. This could drag on a long time. If Jefferson wanted to compete, Les would likely let him, but only if he's back for spring practice.
I wonder if it'd even be for the good of the team for JJ to come back next year (if possible). Would JJ be content to be a backup QB or would it just add descent to the team and make it harder for ZM to take over the reins? If JJ doesn't get back this year I really think it'd be best if he just graduates and moves on.
