It's Too Bad We Made A Series With Tulane Instead Of Fresno State

I just saw an interview with Fresno State. He was talking about how they have a real tough time finding any of the big schools to play them. He said they were more than happy to fill the hole that LSU had. It seemed that he'd love to come to Baton Rouge every year for the same deal. I would personally prefer it to the Tulane "rivalry."

Fresno State would be interesting because they are a perennial midmajor power and they could beat us if we are not at the top of our game, so the game is interesting contrast that with the boring Tulane game. We all know Tulane has no chance to beat us even on their best day. I know the AD needs money to meet the budget, and that the Tulane game is profitable. But, is also boring! It is a preseason game right in the middle of the season.

Too bad we won't pick up the gauntlet from Fresno State every year. I certainly respect their coach and program.

I definitely think that a tough, outside-of-the-state OOC regular would be pretty nice. It would bring more exposure to LSU in parts where we aren't as well-known and vise-versa.

I do like the idea of playing west coast teams but not on the level of the recent Tulane deal. If LSU is going to sign a 10 year agreement, I would like it be with a competitive regioanl school (to positively affect recruiting and pump up the regional fan base). This is where the Texas A&M rivalry should be renewed.

The SEC schedule is tough enough. We all know that the media loves a big matchup, but they will only care about the winner...as they should. If you take on a tough ooc schedule in addition to the toughest conference schedule in the country, you do not get bonus points for a loss.

Personally, I love to see LSU play big time competitors. If other teams do not choose to do so, they will be ahead in the polls before it is all said and done.

Also, with the trend that LSU is facing, they (LSU) should never schedule a home and home with anyone unless it is in Tiger Stadium first. Everyone else backs out of the deal and LSU dosen't penalize them in court. At least AZ has the balls to honor their deal.

A team like Fresno State is the classic "lose lose" series. They get very little run nationally, though football "experts" recognize that they're a dangerous team.

Personally, I don't see a lot of value in building this kind of team into a long term schedule, as the conference schedule is tough enough. The Pac 10 teams need some difficulty added to their schedule in order to have a shot at the championship. We do not.

Although I would love to see us play bigger name OOC teams, there is nothing sweeter (at least in my mind) than kicking the ever-living crap out of Toolame! It never gets old!

Why play Fresno State? ..... Just because they have a mouthy coach that likes throwing down the gauntlet in the public media? Puh-leazzze!

Fresno had their azzes smoked by La Tech 40-28 last season in a game that was nowhere near as close as the lopsided score might indicate. If Auburn or LSU wants to schedule a cupcake, they'll make the smart choice of doing it in an area in which they recruit.

Fresno State is a payday team among a sea of payday teams to choose from.

There are few things as fun as seeing your favorite team in a foreign, hostile territory. How sweet was it last year to see the purple and gold prevail in Arizona?

I was at the UT - Notre Dame game last year. The atmosphere was electric for a big time SEC school coming to town, even though the Vols were having a down year.

I agree. While we will always take a chance on dropping one of these games, I would like to see us get out of the South every now and then for a road game.

These games are fun for us fans that like to travel to away games as well. It would open up new places to visit that we probably would not have looked at as a family vacation spot.

Glad I read all the posts cause I wanted to write the same thing. Fresno is a lose-lose. You win, you're supposed to win. You lose, holy cow, it's a big time upset. The perception of Fresno St. is not as a really good mid-major team. It may be to people who know football but not the general public.

If we want a home and home against a good west coast team year in and year out, play Oregon like we used to. But the Fresno St. game to me is a lose-lose every year.
