I try to make conversation with opposing fan so that they know not all Tiger fans are obnoxous drunks. Invite them for some food or just some light talk about the game. If they have had a bad experience this may help to bring a better light to a bad situation. I'm a marshal at the games and I work in the student section so I know first hand how some of our imature students get. And to think I was the same way 20 years ago:dis:
I agree with everything you said, Fightin, except for the part about chanting "Tiger Bait." I don't agree that those who chant "Tiger Bait" to opposing fans are idiots. I believe that, if done correctly and respectfully, it's part of good-natured banter between fans of opposing schools. It should never be done in a threatening manner. Opposing fans who hear "Tiger Bait" should never fear for their safety or well-being. I believe that we can be respectful of opposing fans while letting them hear a loud "Tiger Bait." Our "Tiger Bait" chant is a significant part of the charm of LSU football and its fans. I will chant "Tiger Bait" to our opponents fans, but I will do it in a respectful way. At the same time that I let them know that I think (or hope) that the team they follow is bait for my beloved Tigers, I will offer those fans to share my food and drink if they care to and wish them and their teams well, while acknowledging that I hope that my team destroys their team on the playing field! :geaux:
For the Auburn game we will be hearing alot of Tiger Bait chants. Both LSU and Auburn fans will be doing it this weekend.
Does that mean that the WarEagleTigerPlainsmen stole our Tiger Bait cheer as well as our name? Seriously there is no excuse for fans of either team to resort to acts of violence, theft, vandalism or harrassment of each others fans. Leave that kind of thing for European and Latin American Soccer Hooligans.
Curly Hallman forced me to learn that it's just a game. Support the Tigers enthusiasticly but get over the senseless acts of rudeness. The only madness I have now is if the Tigers lose, I can't bring myself to read the Sunday paper:cry:
I think Auburn has stole everything from us. They want to be LSU sooooooo bad but they will never come close. We are the TRUE TIGERS.
I agree with most everything you said except for the above. There is no way you can solve this problem if you don't continue to bring it up and discuss it in public. I applaud Skip for taking the lead on correcting fan behavior at LSU ... and I believe the message is getting through to people. Hopefully, other schools will follow Skip's lead and do the same. It's never easy to air your dirty laundry in public, but doing so will help LSU in the long run!
I think this PC crap is for the birds. If you can't take the heat then stay at home. When I go to road games I expect to get a little friendly banter with the oppenents fans. I will yell "TIGER BAIT" all day at Auburn fans. I live in B'ham and have to listen to the Auburn and Bama crap all day long. When I have a chance to dish it back I will. I have been going to games since '82 and I can honestly say I have never seen the crap that opposing fans talk about. What I have seen is the language but that goes on everywhere. I have seen cups thrown after a touchdown (this done in excitement). I have never seen an LSU fan fight another teams fan, I have never seen LSU pissing on fans. Skip has help screw up tailgating and I find the atmosphere very dull since the black post have gone up. I think this extra effort to be nice has carried over to no emotion in the games. The Florida game had no emotion what so ever. Georgia game was different. I expect this to be a heated atmosphere and if the Auburn faithful are scared then they should be. This is LSU fan's house not theirs.
