and I'm over the fish fries in Houston. They are nothing like the ones back home. You get fried fish (that's not too fresh), fries & huspuppies. I'm suprised they dont just go ahead and fry the styrofoam container. I miss the salad (green and potato), fish and roll combo that I grew up with. So, I was just wondering if anyone had any good meal ideas for a good Catholic girl... Also, if anyone lives in Houston and has the scoop on a church that offers more than all fried food let me know.
A couple of good fish tacos and a bean burrito would be great. They make the best ones in Ensenada. LINK
Well I love blue crabs and usually go get a dozen at a local seafood rest every Friday during lent. They don't boil them and they aren't as good as home of course but you gotta live with what you got!! You know whats funny though is I remember seeing "lent lunch and dinner specials" whaen I lived in BR. You see nothing like that in FL! In fact at lunch today I asked the waitress to leave with bacon off my grilled shrimp and she asked if I was allergic. I told her no that is was a Friday during lent and she looked at me like I was talking chinese!! She didn't even know what lent was!!! Amazing!!!!!
Digiorno Cheese Pizza loaded down with some good veggie fixin's. Or, maybe a good seafood pasta if you are able to get your hands on some decent salad type shrimp or crawfish tails.
Alright, I tried to bite my typing tongue, but can't hold off any longer. The no land-based meat on Friday during Lent has to be among the most preposterous of all religious rituals. Alright I feel better now.
I still stand by my belief that the no meat Friday thing was a plot to increase fishermen's profits. :hihi:
I wish I could get my hands on some decent crawfish. For a city so close to Louisiana you would think that Houston people would have a clue as to how to boill crawfish. They dont. I've been to several places where they dump oil and seasoning all over the cooked crawfish then serve it. You end up not being able to peel them because they slip out of your hand. Plus, the peeled tails are all Chinese. I called my mom last week and everyone was over having a crawfish boil. It took everything I had to not load up the car and head home
It is strange that some Houston businessmen are not taking advantage of this. I know that in the Beaumont area you can get crawfish. You can even get hot boudin around town in various take-out eateries. There are thousands of Louisianians that the oil business has taken to Houston. Someone is missing a money-making opportunity.
i feel your pain! the only crawfish i can get my hands on here are bags of frozen tails, and that is the chinese stuff. :bncry:
