This is a good article by Stewart Mandel at SI.com. It talks about how USC will be hurt greatly by the departure of Mike Williams. What I liked about this article is that this guy has a vote in the poll, and he is now saying he is going to consider other teams, namely LSU, Georgia, and OU for the preseason #1. this tells me other voters may also be thinking along these lines. Secondly, Petey Carroll had to call a team meeting Tuesday night after Williams' comments to the student newspapaer about the team and their problems/attitudes. Could dissent be slipping in at USC? What I didn't like is that he said USC has had the best recruiting class of WRs the last two years. Obviously he has not looked too close at what LSU has done in that same time frame. Enjoy the article. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/stewart_mandel/02/25/mandel.williams/index.html
I hate to whine and be the doom and gloom type, but quite frankly I am scared about the future of college football with these kids being given the ability to jump ship.
Only 3 players have "taken advantage" of the Clarett ruling. I don't think there's going to be an epidemic of desertions once players see early departing sophomores languishing on the bench or in NFL Europe. Anyway, to the point of the quote, Coker's recruiting problems go a lot deeper than 2nd year players bolting to the NFL.
While I hope this isn't the beginning of a trend, and I feel that the Clarett ruling is asinine, the first high-profile case of a player jumping to the pros couldn't have happened to a "nicer" program.
Pete Carroll probably called a team meeting to cry about the fact that he didnt really win a share of the National Championship because all he has is a rose Bowl Trophy and this past year it just means he won the Rose Bowl. So sorry petey boy but it looks like someone just popped a little hole in your balloon and your losing all your wind. USC sucks. Geaux Tigers
Although I would like nothing better, don't expect USuCk to fall apart just because they lose a player or two. Remember they play in the PAC 10. SEC teams take more physical abuse in one conference game than USC does in an entire conference schedule. Thats why teams like USC are fresh at the end of the season while teams like Gawga have lost half of their team to injury. They have also recruited well as of late. Best case scenario they go undefeated with their week schedule and we bring them back to earth 1-4-05 down in South Florida. I would rather play them and beat them than listen to another season of them making excuses as to how they were cheated out of the real national championship again.:geaux: :lsug:
