from what i saw on the news here, it was more than the kid tossed her cookies from it. she had a fairly bad allergic reaction to something in the soap and had to be taken to the er. still, i dont think the mom could have anticipated that or was abusing her child. if she had physically knocked the snot out of the kid for swearing, that would be abuse. but soap? not so much.
"Wash your mouth with soap" is a phrase mothers use to remind a child to watch his language. As a practice, it accomplishes nothing but to further aggravate a petulant child. My mother never dreamed of something so absurd as washing my mouth with soap. Her punishments were far more cunning, subtile, frustrating and insidious. She confiscated the needle from my phonograph. An ass whipping from Dad was over in a minute but the wrath of Mom was prolonged agony.
I have had my mouth washed out. When i was very young it was a good lesson. I have also had the tabasco on the tongue thing too (think that is were i first devoloped my taste for hot things.) The article does touch on a good point though, they only way to disciple a kid anymore is to call Dr Phil and then let the kid slap you on national tv. Remove your head from your anus and pay attention to what continues to happen in America. Also not who is causing it to happen. Visit the Law Section in Barnes and Noble. Even some of the professionals have become sickened by the usurpation of power.. tgsam
I noticed this morning, while reading the comics, that the creator of Mallard Filmore signs his toons "Tinsley". Not the same one?
