I have been trying to think of another situation where a coach has a #1 ranked team and decides to leave that job for another one. Is there anything comparable to the possibility that Miles might leave LSU for Michigan? What I'm getting at is that LSU is still a stepping-stone job, apparently, not the ultimate place to be. I realize Miles is a Michigan alumnus but is the Michigan job a better one than the LSU job? Is it even as good? I know people are going to say that there is more history and more prestige to Michigan but I want to know how LSU can get that--it seems silly that Michigan with its poor performance in the past eight years since its NC would be an upgrade from LSU which has had a NC in the past five and is #1 right now.
Re: Is LSU the only #1 program ever to have to worry its coach might go somewhere els Bob Stoops for 5 years in a row. Pretty much it happens all the time considering people want a top coach.
Re: Is LSU the only #1 program ever to have to worry its coach might go somewhere els We worried every year when Saban was here. This is the first year we've had to worry under Miles. I'm not worried about it at all. Let's win the NC! There have been other schools, I just can't remember who.
Re: Is LSU the only #1 program ever to have to worry its coach might go somewhere els There are only 3 reasons I can see for a successful coach to want to leave the LSU program (assuming there are no major NCAA violations that will negatively impact the program, of course, and the LSU administration keeps the payscale at a decent level, etc.): 1) Retirement 2) NFL 3) Alma Mater of coach comes calling
Re: Is LSU the only #1 program ever to have to worry its coach might go somewhere els You've got to be kidding! I read and responded to many posts just on this board about all the rumors of PC leaving USC. To your point he wasn't considering leaving USC for another college team but still, if CLM doesn't leave for Michigan his name will start to become consideration for every NFL opening that occurs. I believe in the case of CLM it's not a lack of prestige about LSU but more about CLM's ties to Michigan. If he had none, there would be no discussion.
Re: Is LSU the only #1 program ever to have to worry its coach might go somewhere els I should have made it clear that I was talking about a coach leaving for another college job. I didn't know, by the way, that Bob Stoops has annually been talked about for other college openings.
Re: Is LSU the only #1 program ever to have to worry its coach might go somewhere els We would only lose Miles to Michigan, IMO. He doesn't have NFL dreams, and if he did, Saban and Spurrier may make him think twice. Can't blame the man for going to his Alma Mater. If he doesn't go to Mich this year, we've got him for a long time. He has it rolling here, and by all accounts, his family is happy.
Re: Is LSU the only #1 program ever to have to worry its coach might go somewhere els I can't recall if it was ESPN Radio or Fox Sports radio today that was discussing coaching changes in college and nfl. They described the notion of Miles going to Michigan as him moving to greener pastures. :insane:
Re: Is LSU the only #1 program ever to have to worry its coach might go somewhere els Now thats just down right STUPID! The only thing that could draw Miles is the school. I said this back a few weeks ago but I'm still not convinced Meechigan will go after Miles. I dont think they will pay him the necessary money either. They are cheap.
Re: Is LSU the only #1 program ever to have to worry its coach might go somewhere els I am not worrying about anything right now but winning our last games. When our football season is over, I might worry then, but I am too busy worrying about winning right now. :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux:
