This is NOT intended to be a negative post or flame. But an LSU guy asked on an Auburn board this morning why Auburn fans disliked LSU. There was a unanimous response that we didn't dislike LSU, just considered them to be competetive rivals and that all our "dislike" was reserved for bama. Then I look at ths board and so many messages are something about Auburn. It's like Auburn is the only team on your minds. You are even predicting the score of a game that isn't even played until Oct. 25. What gives? Why aren't ya'll even thinking about the other teams you plaY/:shock:
It sure seems that way. I'm not obsessed with them. It looks like some people are jealous of their high ranking. I don't care where we're ranked to start the year, only at the end. It also doesn't matter if the fans are overlooking the other games, as long as the team and coaches don't. I'm more afraid of Georgia than Auburn at this time. Unless Auburn is as good as the pollsters think they are.
I wouldn't say "obsessed" but I do think Auburn is LSU's biggest hurdle between the the SEC Championship this year. Add the fact that many in the press have picked Auburn as #1, the recent "bad blood" and our lack of a true in-state rival and Auburn is definitely the Rival Du jour. If Auburn wasn't so good you wouldn't see so much discussion. I would take it as a compliment.
Couple of comments. 1. Read the post about who we will be pulling for, everyone says Auburn. 2. Yes we dont like your Coach. 3. We also get frustrated when your fellow auburn fans make up stories about us raining down buckets of urine and beating up your children and elderly. Visit autigers.com for some of those dumb ass comments. 4. Auburn is our rival. Because of the actions of your coach and certain players. 5. We dont really have a rival, and when Spurrier left Tubby gladly filled the role of the most dispised coach in the SEC. Lastly Auburn is the hot topic. You guys are predicted to be the best team since the 85 Bears. Some places have you ranked #1. We are playing ULM the 117th ranked team in D1 football (Just incase there are 117 teams in D1) you are playing a top ranked USC team. It effects our conference, etc etc. It is the big matchup of opening day. The few times I visited Auburns board, I counted 30 threads on the first page 25 of them were about Alabama - All of them either insulting them, their fans or their team.
I see it as competitive rivals which is more interesting now b/c your coach is so inept. Now Ole Miss, there's the hatred thing.
Tubby is the lightning rod. Stomping on the eye of the tiger and flaunting his cigar after a tough loss just struck a nerve with all Tiger Fans. Spurrier got under our skins as well but the visored one had championships to back up his attitude. Tubby just had the attitude.
I'll give you the logo stomp thing...but that I don't remember that being the entire Auburn team or something Tuberville encouraged or got going. Ok, help me understand something about this cigar thing. My understanding is that the Auburn players and coaches had cigars, but they were over in front of the Auburn fans and band who had made the trip, and that almost all of the LSU fans had left the stadium. How exactly is that "flaunting" or taunting? This sounds like the same case of the whinies Bama fans had when Peyton Manning led the UT band in Rocky Top after they broke Bama's seven game winning streak in that series. And that was at Bryant-Denny (or Legion Field...it was a Bama home game regardless). You guys act like we ran over to the LSU student section and started flipping you guys off or something.
Actually, theres is quite a lot of vehemence towards LSU on the Auburn boards, especially on AUtigers.com. Wild, outrageous stories about LSU fans from people who often admit they weren't even there. Auburns boards are generally negative about Georgia, Bama and LSU. It shouldn't be surprising that there is some animosity in return. I think LSU fans respect your football team and school in general. We have less respect for the Auburn fans. And we absolutely loath your coach. Its not just the incidents where he incited the croud in 2001, it goes back to when he was at Ole Miss and his early days at Auburn when he ran up the scores on some games against some very poor LSU teams of Curley Hallman and Gerry Dinardo.
Guys lets all give the cigar thing and logo stomping and Kicker fighting flute players thing a rest. That was almost 3 years ago. Who cares... It is so tired....
The logo stomping: If ANY head coach did not want that kind of thing to be done by his team then it wouldn't be done. Cigar: Taunting/flaunting is in the eye of the beholder. Rocky Top: The band playing their own fight song after a win is acceptable, though I can see where the losing home team wouldn't be happy about it.
