...Sound a lot like Jim Mora with the "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda" shtick?

I don't mean to be hard on the guy, but he seems like he makes a lot of excuses when the team loses. Not that the excuses are off base or anything, they just seem to be piling up. He also seems to think that LSU should magically win a lot of games that they don't. I'm guessing that it might have a lot to do with keeping the confidence of the team high and him not wanting to say that it's a lack of talent as to why they're losing. I just hope that it doesn't become a habit later on down the road. Of course if they're winning, they won't need to make excuses. Just an observation. No intended malice since a lot of what he says is the truth.

A few quotes from LSUSPORTS.NET: Not the most indicative quotes, but it's 2:30 and I can't sleep, but I still don't feel like searching for quotes.

Mainieri has made it clear we don't have comparable talent.

In lieu of starting a new bb thread, what's the likelihood that LSU can make it to the SEC tourney with Tennessee, Vandy, Arky and Florida in front of them? Vandy and Arky are at the top of the East and West, respectively and Florida at least has a winning record.
I presume many of you would say: slim or none, eh?

    Slim, but not impossible.

Give him a break, it is his first year and it probably isn't going as well as he had hoped. That first quote is dead on though, and pretty summarizes our year; too many errors and not enough timely hitting to overcome them.

We were picked to finish last in the West though, so still being in the race for the tourney makes this a decent year, all things considered.

Just wait till next year, his class is stacked and we should be much improved. :thumb:

I did. By stating numerous times that what he has been saying has mostly been spot-on, but he does seem to make a lot of excuses. I don't care how well LSU played in that 16-5 loss to Ole Piss, but I can't for the life of me see how we could have won that game. I'm one of the biggest LSU baseball fans on this forum and would never diss such a classy coach as CPM, just pointing out that he does make a lot of excuses. Probably because he's really open with the media I guess...

yes, you are one of the biggest lsu baseball fans. there is nothing wrong as honest and open discussion.

so to baseball. i have been disappointed with the inconsistancy this year. this has been a real jekyll and hyde team. and you never know which one will show up.

As for the Coach, I frankly think he was a little surprised at the failure of the upperclassmen to step up and be team leaders. I personally was very disappointed the Clay Dirks and a couple of the other upper classmen did not step up and come through for the team this year. I don’t know if it is the result of injuries or adjusting to the new coaching staff or just “having a bad year.”

As for the SEC Tournament, I think the Tigers are a long shot. If we don’t win today and Sunday against Tennessee, it becomes a very, very long shot with Vandy and Arkansas remaining.

On the bright side, there are some Tiger freshmen who are showing signs of improvement and developing while at LSU. Also, I keep hearing that there are supposed to be some very talented players coming in next year.

Does anyone have any information next year’s freshmen?

Those freshman are going to be insane when they're juniors and seniors. LSU is going to be unstoppable in a couple of seasons. Bradford is quickly becoming one of the best pitchers that LSU has had in a long time. What makes it so great is that we're looking at an LSU team that will only continue to get better. We;re no longer stuck wondering how much we'll continue to see our program fall. Very exciting times ahead for LSU baseball.
