Is it a recruiting violation for former players now in the NFL to accompany their former college coach to a new recruit's high school, also the former high school of the NFL player, when the college coach is actively recruiting someone at that school?

Not in the case your are talking about. They arent Bama boosters.

drc40, thanks. Wasn't trying to start anything, just curious. I knew someone who was learned and astute on the board would have the right answer. Thanks again.

So you're saying that someone found a loophole and exploited it? That sounds kind of dirty, almost underhanded, even deceitful.Who would do such a thing?

    Maybe.

No one is supposed to be recruiting for an NCAA school but the designated coaches. Athletic representatives of the university are specifically prohibited from recruiting and this includes pratically anybody with any association with the university. If former NFL athletes accompanied an NCAA coach on a recruiting trip, they might be considered to be athletic representatives of the university.

So then it would have to be former Bama players, not former LSU players accompanying Saban. At least from what you said.

There's no such people like that on this board. Maybe the actress Michael Learned. Maybe. That's about it.

Really ? I posted elsewhere that a friend of mine e-mailed me and told me the story about James going around with Saban isn't true. However, just to consider a hypothetical, if a former LSU player accompanies the HC of Alabama out while that coach is recruiting, I believe that some might consider said player to be a Bama booster. Personally I hope none of it is true (I could be wrong but I honestly don't believe that it is) and that Eric Edwards' brother comes to LSU in 2008.
