Is coaching staff putting Lee in bad passing situations?

I don't think it is any secret that Lee has struggled with picks all year. But this problem just didn't occur in the last two weeks. It's been a problem all year long. Yet every game I've watched LSU play the passing patterns Lee is working with are timing oriented routes. Where the ball and receiver basically have to arrive at a common point at the same time. Many of these have turned into over throws, under throws and ultimately into int's.

But what I haven't seen is an effort by the coaching staff to change the type of routes in the passing game to minimize these potential miscues. I do not see curl routes by wr's or te's. I see skinny posts being run over the middle even after the entire world has realized this kid is struggling.

As a coaching staff if I've got a qb with an int problem and I've decided I'm going to continue to use him. I'm going to implement patterns that are ultra safe but can still move the chains and go to the strength of my team which is the running game.

You don't ask a struggling qb, especially one struggling in the int's/pick six department to throw skinny posts or sideline out patterns. Not intended as a flame just an obvious observation.

Yes. All recruits should immediately switch their commitments to Bama.

When the alcohol wears off come back and read again. I specifically said it was not a flame and nowhere mentioned or implied our staff was any better. Read some of my post on THIS BOARD from LAST NIGHT about our own passing woes.

You can't play simple football in the upper tier of the SEC. Crowton faces top defenses each week and if we rule out every type play that Lee has issues with, it leaves us too predictable to be effective. Lee has to work his way through this because we MUST hit timing routes to take advantage of our fine receivers. We MUST throw sideline out passes to be effective against SEC defenses.

Lee was the third team quarterback last spring. He was thrown in the game due to circumstance and he just has to work his way past these problems. Dumbing down the game for him is a losers proposition against top competition.

One thing about Lee that is a major asset . . . he doesn't get down on himself. He shakes it off and come right back throwing for an awful lot of yardage. He's getting better. Really.

The 4th and 3 for the pick six was a bad call. THAT should have gone to Kieland over the right side. It was open. Too much to ask a struggling QB who still throws a second or two too late and is playing like a deer in headlights to make that throw. Give him credit for hanging in there. You can fault his receivers also because there were some drops again. He is one hell of a gutsy player but Troys D had no gas in the 4th. Made it a bit easier for hem to draw confidence.

Those routes are just a part of football.

If all we do is run down the field and chunk it up teams are gonna start defending solely against that aspect.

Lee has got to just get better at making those throws and it starts with working more on them in practice.

I agree. The kid has a "Brett Favre" mentality when it comes to int's and looking in the rear view mirror. He'll be a totally different qb next season. I know many are excited about Sheppard but I would'nt count Lee out just yet.

I'm not saying "just run the ball". Simplify his pass patterns to get him some confidence back and gradually open it back up as his confidence grows. Your running game is good enough to keep the defense honest while scaling back on the complexity of the pass patterns.
