I know the ESPN/Coaches' Poll is tied to the BCS, but if I am remembering correctly, the AP still doesn't officially vote by the BCS Championship Game. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I have this right, not positive though.) If this is so, imagine this scenario: OU, USC, OSU, and LSU all win out. OU plays USC/OSU in the Sugar and we play the other team in another BCS Bowl. Oklahoma loses a close game, and we dominate and win big. Whoever beats them is voted # 1 in the Coaches' poll. Regardless of who we play, we either get a lot of attention in the West or Midwest/East from the AP. Is there a remote possibility the NC could be split. I realize this is based on a lot of "what if". I for one believe this is why you will not see #3 vs. #4 in a BCS game, to avoid just such a controversy. If it is not Sugar, we will be stuck playing TCU and OSU/USC will be somewhere playing a two-loss team. Anyone else have any thoughts on this #1 vs. #2 and #3 vs. #4 scenario?
While I would like to believe it's possible, the media has built Oklahoma to such a god-like status that they would feel obligated to give it to the team that knocks off Oklahoma.
only way i see possible is this: USC loses before bowl games. LSU ranked #2 in polls, but Ohio St gets BCS #2. Ohio St beats OU in BCS NC game, and LSU wins its BCS bowl game BIG. even all this would not happen though, because if Ohio St wins out in this scenario, they would jump us in final poll. This scenario may work better if a 2 loss team get BCS #2 spot.
Or, as unlikely as it appears to be, if OK does NOT run the table and loses a game (maybe their conference's championship game, for example), then you'd have NO unbeaten teams (I'm not counting TCU since they haven't played anybody this season). Then I could see a split result in the polls, depending upon the outcome of the BCS rankings and the actual bowl games.
