Found this quote from a paper here in Memphis from a year ago, just thought with all that has transpired how ironic this quote was. I know we are drilling this Saban thing to death, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless....

Last Christmas, it was LSU's Saban considering an offer from the Dolphins.

"We were 45 minutes late to meet (LSU athletic director) Skip Bertman
because we were sitting in Nick's office while he was still trying to
...make a decision," Sexton said. "We looked out his window at the Tiger
Stadium at the new West side addition being built, and I asked him if
he wanted to be remembered as Bear Bryant or Don Shula.

"He said, 'Bear Bryant.' But in the end, the challenge of coaching in
the pros and re-building a once great franchise was too much for him
    to pass up."

Instead of being Bear Bryant, he now lives in the shadow of the bear, getting attacked by Organa the Drunken Kissing Bandit

I thought of that quote when this was all going on. The thing is at LSU he had the oppurtunity to be the first Nick Saban. At Bama all he'll be is the next Bear Bryant.

well not quite. In actuality, he'll be lucky if he even matches Gene Stalling's record. old times are gone.

Give it time, Caddy. Human cloning is not yet legal.

i realize that your post is tongue-in-cheek, but in reality, Bear Bryant would not be successful in today's game. Scholarship limits, NCAA enforcement, Media scrutiny, and sunshine laws would reveal Paul Bryant for what he was ..... human.

personally, i've always respected CPB, but it's a different era now.

IF Bama could have as many players as they wanted back in the day, then every program could have as many players as they wanted. It's not like it was an unlevel playing field. Everybody just wanted to play for a winning program/coach is all.
