Could someone here at TF please tell me what is the mission in Iraq right now, 5 years in, what is the general purpose now. I think I am missing that.
I support the troops 100% and have even sent packages and donations to different troop organizations. But I am failing to understand the mission after 5 years.

Bush doesn't even know, or at least he can't articulate it. He's a doofus who believes that resolve alone is the solution to all problems. Right now he's not the least bit interested in making things easier for the next president (probably a democrat) so he'll just let the sore fester some more.

We're building bridges and giving kids dental braces in Iraq while our own roads and bridges fall apart and our own poor kids go without. I despise George W. Bush and all his republican cronies. History will be very unkind to this toad. I fear he is the tipping point and responsible for the impending decline and possibly the eventual fall of the United States.

Please define your theory. That is a very curious, bold statement.

What he said. Bush is a worse president than Carter ever was, in every possible way. Economic, foreign affairs, everything.

    The SabanFan Timeline:

9/11 --> Go after terrorists and those who harbor them --> Saddam thumbs his nose at UN sanctions --> Everybody (including Democrats) and his brother are convinced Saddam has WMDs --> Everybody (including Democrats) wants blood so permission granted to go in and kick Saddam's ass --> Saddam regime falls --> turns out Iraqis are idiots who can't sh!t and flush at the same time --> Years pass as we try to get these imbeciles to start up and maintain a democracy --> in the meantime, al qaeda sets up shop in Iraq --> we say WTF, we want to kill all of these MFers anyway so let's kill them here --> Demos decide this is a great opportunity to blame everyone but themselves for the mess so they make it all Bush's fault --> liberals fall in behind them and suddenly, no one remembers why we were in Iraq and why we can't get out.

Ahh Sabanfan, there are a few problems in your timeline my good friend.
The first one being that the administration had the reports showing that Iraq had no WMDs before we even went in. Remember Colin Powel speech that he now regrets giving, spewing false information to that committee to make a case to go to war. Im sure you remember that.

Also, we didnt have a contigency plan, we just went in blasting like the Texas cowboy Bush thinks he is, we didnt forsee the problems that we face now in Iraq, I dont know if we could have forseen this anyway. I will give you this hindsight is 20/20. However, we created the atmosphere for Al-Qadea to come in and set up shop.
This probably wouldnt have happen if we had realized that the Iraqi Armed forces and police forces where broken to pieces and while trying to train them, those people saw it better for them to join Al-Qadea and the various militias that are causing problems now.

I have to echo that SF. Not to mention the money and time we spend on rebuilding their infastructure only to have the numbskulls blow it up before it's complete. Remember, these are people that 1. Crap 2. Wipe A$$ with hand 3. Use towel to clean hand

I stand by my contention that going in was the right thing to do, they problem was with the ill fated plan. For anyone to think for a second that once saddam was gone it would be peace love and hairgrease over there is just plain stupid. We exiled most of the people within his regime that could have thwarted the insurgency and they inturn BECAME the insurgency. I could fill the forum with conversations I've had with various Iraqis about WMD and they DO believe they are still there but they WON'T be found.
