This place is a mess. One thing is for sure - autocrats everywhere are watching and learning. If you want to rig elections and get away with it, you better damned sure not let personal media (blogs, twitter, texting, etc) out amongst the general public.

This is going to get it's own chapter in many books about the democratization (or in my opinion the hyper-specialization) of the modern media.

Totalitarians are so paranoid that they feel that they must pump up their support. So they rig a landslide election instead of a reasonably close election and it triggers all of this. They have no style or subtlety at all. They might have gotten away with this if it tuned out to be 52%-48%.

Saddam used to win by 95% and never knew that it just made him look ridiculous.

no more posts about this. i read (from cc on a bar tv, fwiw) that the head of security was assassinated. he had leaked that the election was rigged and the real results had dinna jacket in 3rd. thats just as hard to believe as him winning a landslide.
