Should the United States and/or Israel launch a pre-emptive strike against Iran to prevent that country from developing nuclear weapons? The thought of North Korea and Iran with nuclear weapons absolutely terrifies me. But Iran, given their location in relation to Israel and the rest of the Middle East makes them REALLY SCARY. Remember a few years ago when Iranian vice-president Rafsanjani said that Israel could be nuked with minimal loss to the Islamic world? These boys might just be looney enough to let the nuclear bomb fly. On the bright side, Iran is highly unstable, with massive student protests and growing discontent with their evil, backward, corrupt theocratic slavemasters. But I've heard of no activism against the govt. since last spring. Looks like their grip on power is stable for now, and that's a concern.
One major concern right now is spreading our resources too thin. We didn't finish the job in Afghanistan and we still have a lot of work to do in Iraq. I don't see how we can add another major military campaign to our current responsibilities. If we were going to hit Iran, maybe we should have done it before Iraq, not after. Since we have Iraq to deal with now, we should consider more of a Cold War/Radio Free Iran approach. North Korea is the scariest and should have been our top priority in the Axis of Evil. But Japan, South Korea, and Red China aren't reliable allies and probably wouldn't have supported us.
South Korea is a mystery to me. On the one hand, they know how dangerous North Korea can be, and they are not interested in leaving themselves open for another invasion, and I think they are absolutely terrified of a PDRK with nukes. On the other hand, there is a growing anti-American sentiment in South Korea, especially among the younger generation, those too young to remember the Korean War. Mostly, it's your typical "Evil, capitalist America, murderers of babies and exploiters of global workers" bullcrap, but to have this sentiment growing in a country that literally has a knife to it's throat everyday and would have been conquered but for our intervention is disturbing, and to me, the height of ingratitude. The order of the day in North Asia right now is appeasement, not deterrence, the belief that if we'll just be nice to Kim, he'll be nice to us. Like Munich 1938, Japan, South Korea, and the PRC are all falling all over themselves to kow-tow to Pyongyang and show them how friendly we are and how we don't want war. Well, we've been trying that for eight years now, and what has it gotten us? A North Korea that has or will soon have a nuclear arsenal. Well folks, I don't want war either. I also don't want Anchorage, Alaska or Seattle, Washington to disappear in a mushroom cloud. And I trust Kim Jong-Il about as far as I can throw him. Since 1950, the one constant with the PDRK has been this; they understand only one language, the language of brute force. Same goes for Iran. We need to send the same message that Israel sent to Saddam Hussein at Osirak in 1981. Totalitarian regimes with rogue foreign policies that threaten their neighbors and the world with nuclear fire will not be tolerated.
1) We are not a totalitarian regime, but a representative democracy. 2) Our foreign policy is not driven by pathological hatred of Israel and the Jews, or pathological hatred of any group, religion, country for that matter. Actually, Iran just hates anyone who is not Muslim. Kim Jong-Il just wants more power. 3) We have not threatened anyone with nuclear fire. Not like the PDRK, who stated just a few weeks ago that New York and Washington would be set aflame by their missiles. If you want to debate, debate, but please leave the over-the-top, leftist, anti-American drivel at home, and come with facts.
