LSU coach Nick Saban finally turned pro Saturday, prompting a Christmas night celebration at the home of Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga.

"My wife and I high-fived each other," Huizenga said.

The billionaire businessman anxiously watched from Fort Lauderdale as Saban held a televised news conference in Orlando to announce he would accept an offer to coach the Dolphins....

...He first interviewed for the job last week at his home in Baton Rouge, La., hosting Huizenga and president Eddie Jones for dinner. He met with them again Friday and said he agreed in principle to a deal.

But Huizenga said he was unsure they had an agreement until the news conference.

"If somebody held a gun to my head 10 minutes ago, I couldn't tell you," Huizenga said moments after Saban's announcement. "I had a good feeling, but I really did not know." Saban, 53, will coach LSU in the bowl game before taking over a long-proud Dolphins franchise enduring its worst season since the 1960s. He becomes the sixth coach in team history, and the fourth since Huizenga took over as owner in 1994.

All you haters saying Saban knew all along...WHY would Hiuzenga say THIS if it were a done deal.

Thanks for the link. Of course several posters will say he's lying, just like Saban did, they know the real story and us believers are just naive.

i posted days ago a completely made up rumor (i was making a point) that turned out to be right. it got deleted. just because i was right doesnt mean i didnt make it up.

I find the whole thing odd. Saban said at his conference that it was just a matter of letting all of his players know. That was the reason for the delay. And he suggested that he told Skip about it. Then both Skip and Jones deny knowing what his decision would be. That was this a.m. And I am supposed to believe that Saban didn't tell anyone from LSU or Miami until just prior to his announcement? That's hard to believe. If he did do that, then maybe those who claim Saban is an egomaniac are right. Common courtesy dictates that you let the parties know your decision before you go public with it, doesn't it? Otherwise, you are really stroking yourself a bit, aren't you?

At any rate, it doesn't matter. It's over. Time to move on. I think Dennis Erickson is on the phone trying to get out of the NFL yet again. :dis:
