But we disagree in that I don't think creationism should be taught in social studies either. Once again, I'm not saying it should be taught in science class. I'm saying, when theories on creation are discussed, it should be noted that a substantial percentage of the population believe we were created by some higher being, period. And this should be said with the caveat that creationists don't offer scientific specifics as to how creation took place, they base this on religious belief.
I agree. Why didn't you just state it this simply to begin with? Now reading back I see where you were saying the same basic thing, but the way you went about your post was in a way that you had to realize was going to bring on an argument. So, nobody here believes that Intelligent Design should be taught? I was kind of hoping someone would, but I think people know better than to try & argue with this group.
What's wrong with an argument every now and then. I needed a break from work and couldn't take reading another post asking if we thought Saban watched any of the game. I'm trying to stay away from the den, holding off posting how Les and Bo need a fire lit under their asses until I see them in person next week. I won't judge them until I see more than the camera showed Saturday night. No need getting SabanFan all stirred up after the first game. I really was interested to see how many people are so predisposed to their anti-religious beliefs they can't see what was actually being said. (Other than martin of course.)
And one more thing, I can't stand "intelligent design". Every time I hear it I wonder how many tax dollars were thrown away paying some political think tank to come up with that name. Not sure why Bush went down that road, unless it was intended to be a distraction from some of the administration's failure. And before anyone else gets pissed off, I voted for the guy, for two reasons, terrorism and taxes. So far he's batting 1.000 on those, so I won't complain. The way I see it, I'm getting what I voted for.
Sorry, popular beliefs do not constitute scientific evidence. Period. Any discussion of "higher beings" properly belongs in social studies where religions are studied.
So basically what you're saying here is that we disagree. Nice one. The dynamics of my opinion have little to do with my capacity to absorb your argument. Same place as where I come up with all of them. You tried to justify your stance by stating that millions of people in this country believe in creationism. I bet millions of people also believe in capital punishment. Should that be taught in school? No. Beliefs that are held personal should not be enforced universally. Irony.
