What kind of god would condone his followers doing something like this? And why would you want to worship one who did? Words alone cannot describe how reprehensible this is.

Well they worship the God of Abraham, as Christians do. God ain't the problem, tribalism is the problem. This is muslim on muslim violence. They not only hate Americans and the other major Islamic sects, they have hostile factions within each sect. The Shiites are now splitting between the traditional shiites who follow the old mullahs and the followers of Muqtada al Sadr. Oh, and within Sadr's faction of Shia there is a breakaway faction that thinks Sadr is not islamist enough. No doubt there are tribes within this group as well.

Democracy as we know it is incomprehensible to these people. They are tribal through and through, with the kind of demented "us versus them" mentality that allows them to torture children.

No pun intended, but perhaps this kid will become the poster boy for committing to Iraq long-term. Even better, perhaps this heart-tugging story will convince our Allies or the vaunted U.N. to step up now that the situation is semi-stabilized to relieve the pressure on our troops.

Man that's the truth. Just look to Africa for similar examples.

Why do you love these miserable murdering raghead Iraqis so much? They hate us, they try to kill our soldiers, and their inter-tribal wars are not our fight.

We eliminated their dictator, tried to establish a democracy, and rebuild their infratructure, but they piss all over us and sabotage every effort. We cannot solve their internal differences, it is apparent to everybody by now.

I'm not blaming God. But in their eyes, they think they're justified in doing this and that's it's ok. It's unimaginable to me as to why.

It has nothing to do with "love". I think stablizing an oil-rich country that sits between two hostile nations in the Middle East is in the long-term interest of the Western world. I think the surge and the leadership of General Petraus is tipping the scales to that goal.

Is the sky always falling where you live?

Geez, if setting children on fire doesn't qualify for that in your eyes, I'd hate to see what would.

Which is exactly why the war in Iraq cannot be accurately broken down into two sentence sound bites. There is simply no way to infer an appropriate course of action based on such a limited scope of discourse.

That would be encouraging, but there is no evidence of any scales being tipped.

Nope, life is beautiful in America. But the sky is laying busted on the ground in Iraq.
