Carey, a junior from New Orleans, and Hunt, a senior from Ruston, La., both have sprained medial collateral ligaments in their knees. Carey, who leads LSU with 307 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns, sprained the MCL in his left knee, while Hunt has a sprained MCL in his right knee. Neither injury will require surgery. "These injuries are going to keep Shyrone and Jack out of practice this week," LSU coach Nick Saban said on Monday. "The plan is for them to undergo treatment for their injuries this week and then re-evaluate them at the beginning of next week." Saban added that defensive end Marquise Hill (ankle) and linebacker Adrian Mayes (wrist) are both expected to return to practice this week. Both players sat out the [Miss. St.] game after suffering injuries in LSU's win over Georgia. The practice schedule this week for the Tigers has LSU practicing on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Yeah, it means they probably wont play against Florida, but should return to practice the following week. Im no doctor, but from what I remember about similar injuries in the past, this is a 2-3 week recovery period. Depending on the severity, they could be ready for the UF game, but it may be risky to chance it. They will probably sit out the UF game, and return to practice with light work the following week, and then be ready for USC.
You've got to hate that. Both of those guys were injured when the game was already put away. Who will play in place of Jack if indeed he is not able to play against Florida?
I bet Clayton will see some time on defense against Florida. I'am so glad to see people actually believe we are weaker on defense with Hunt out. Last year when Damien James left the team a lot of people were really hard on Hunt. He might have not looked that great but the playing time he received has paid big dividends this year. An interception for a TD and another that was returned to the two yard line. :geaux:
The interceptions were nothing really, anyone could have made the interceptions Jack made. I'm more impressed with the physical play he's shown this year. Everyone said he was a soft player but he's made the change to strong safety very well.
Gotta agree with Hatcher on this one. Specifically with Carey--being sort of a "skat-back", he certainly won't practice these next 2 weeks and I'd be really surprised if he plays vs Florida--even if he's "cleared" to play, I would imagine that he would be used as a last resort. Addai and Vincent had better pay attention in practice these next 2 weeks and be prepared both mentally and physically. We're counting on the two of them.
Landry, Daniels--possibly even Mayes (even though I know he was moved back to LB right before the season started). The good thing about our DB's is that a few of them can line up and play both safety AND corner. Our defensive schemes seem to allow them to move positions and still get the job done. We have some mighty athletic DB's on this team. Very versatile too.
With Webster, Prude, Gay, Daniels, Daniels, Landry, and Child (even Gordon or Francis) we are covered. Two keys injuries and you will see Clayton back there. Without that, I doubt if Clayton will see much time at DB (as I had predicted early this season).
My roomate had to have surgery on his mcl and was back playing basketball in two weeks. They just sprained theirs, so they should be available for Florida. Hopefully we can afford to give them the extra rest though.
