Well we are going to spend from $500 billion to one trillion dollars to go to Mars.

It is your money folks. And George W. Bush is sending it to Mars.

If we spent that kind of money reinvesting in America, we could probably build enough enthanol plants to be self sufficient in energy in ten years and would not be paying billions to the Arabs and other sundry foreigners, but the oil companies fund the Republican Party, so Bush can't mess with them.

Or we could provide health insurance to all Americans, or we could hire enough teachers to reduce all class sizes to 15 or below.....

Or we could solve the homeless problem, or we could build high speed trains that would connect many of our major cities. But Bush and the Republican Party are going to send the money to Mars.

    I can see it now.....

"Hi, I'm George Bush and I am speaking to you from the surface of Mars. I got someone here I want you to meet.....(Presents little green man with two antennae on top of his head.)....Say something to the folks on Earth there boy."

    "Beeep, Beeep, Beeep."

"He says a good old Texas, 'Howdy.' "

At least then it will all be worth it.

Those who live in glass houses should not cast stones.

Democrats are the big spenders, they favor big Government.

I don't think "Dubyah" will go to mars, however I would support a bill to send you.

    They are both big spenders...

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the Regan Administration that created giant federal deficits.

More important --- Let's not insult each other. What's really needed in America is honest debate. CottonBowl has some great points. I get almost as much of a thrill out of the space program as LSU football, but we need to understand that the price of doing something precludes something else and we really need to get our priorities straight.

One of the reasons that we are in Iraq today is that a decade ago when H. Ross Perot said, "we should raise gas prices by fifty cents per year so that we have incentives to both create alternative energy and build a more efficient America" no one took him seriously.

Of course, there are other reasons for being in Iraq, but that's for a separate thread.

You keep saying that but it is just opinion, you have no proof of anything you say. the media had this Axe to grind and it didn't grind. if it would they would still be waving the banner because they hate "Dubyah"

And as far as your views on Reagan, this country enjoyed a booming economy under Reagan and EVERYONE knows the democratic party is THE tax and spend party.

how many "tax" refunds , no matter how small' did you EVER get during the Clinton administration?

it's easy to count them, none.

Big Government, massive budgets, pork fat politicas are all trademarks of the Democratic party, they soalve everything by throwing Tax dollars at it.

The Rep party takes too much also, but they do acknolwledge that Gov. agencys and people on the "dole" from Uncle Sam needs to be less. Could they cut back faster? In my opinion yes, but at LEAST they ARE on the Same page with the General working class of America. The Democrats are WAY off, and the party is in serious trouble. James Carville himself said this. They are OUT of touch with the real issues.
I'm not saying that Dubyah and his boys walk on water, no indeed they can improve, but they are at least somewhat aware of what john Q. Public is about. With the exception of Joe Liberman the Democratic party is clueless.

JS....... tellin it like it is.

Cottonbowl.....do you really think they are green? I can totally see dubya with his glass helmet on, smiling, introducing Specimen #1 to the American Public.

$5 billion dollars is a lot of money....instead of Mars why don't they give a little back to us working folks with famalies?????

With our economic turnaround that really isn't this is what I have noted:

The Federal Deficit and National Debt are growing faster than at any other time in our history.

The job market is better but still down

U.S. treasury bonds are held in majority by the Chinese forcing lower interest rates in the bond market

The dollar is consistantly loosing ground to foreign currencies.

    Where is the economic turnaround

This leads me to believe that Republicans are every bit as guilty of being big government beurocrats as their miopic Democratic counterparts and that no one pays attention to the indicators that matter.

$5 billion is a lot to you and me and everybody else on a personal level (unless you are Bill Gates) but even if they spend over $1 trillion to put men on Mars it will be spent over at least a 30 year period. What KrazyKottonKreep dosen't realize it that the billions of dollars that JFK committed to putting a man on the moon developed the technology for things like microwave ovens, cell phones and advancements in medical technology that we all take for granted in our daily lives now. The future technology that would be developed over the course of the 25 or 30 years that it would take to put humans on Mars would be of inestimable value to mankind. When a future Neil Armstrong says the first words from the Red Planet about it being a "Giant Leap for Mankind" mankind will already be enjoying the benefits of the technology that will have been developed to accomplish such a monumental task.

Apparently debt is not debt to right wing people as long as it is Republicans running it up. Ronald Reagan ran this country into hopeless debt, ran the budget deficit from about $66 billion a year to over $280 billion a year, and ran the national debt into very dangerous territory, and just when it looked like we were about to get in position to start paying it off three years ago, the Republicans, i.e. Bush, were determined to return to the days of dangerous debt.

Recently the World Bank gave out a warning that the huge budget deficits Bush is running up may endanger the world's economies by running worldwide interest rates into dangerously high areas and forcing defaults that could trigger financial panics and could stunt the growth of the world's economies.

But this is "Republican debt" and apparently that is never harmful, according to the American right wing.

Like I said, as long as it is Republicans who are running up the credit card bills, it is a "good thing." They make excuses and blow it off. These people live in comic book worlds.
