I'm from Tallahassee - any thoughts on Jimbo Fisher?

    Hi folks,

This is my first time here. I live in Tallahassee, Fla. and grew up near here and the Seminoles have always been a part of life. As you know, we hired Jimbo Fisher who was LSU's offensive coordinator of past years and now after one year he is in line to succeed Coach Bowden. Talk about winning the lottery! But he was well received when he got here and although the offense didn't get as far as we wanted this year under him there is not a lot of grumbling concerning him taking the helm of the Noles after a few years. The only grumbling is from a few fair weather dime a dozen fans who want the university to go ahead and show Coach Bowden the door. Won't happen. But do you have any thoughts about these events and Coach Fisher? He seems like a good guy and he helped LSU set more than a few offensive records if I remember right. I'm just wondering here what some of you may think about your former offensive coordinator. I'm thinking he will become a good fit and is just about ther right age and will probably relate and recruit well.

For a while there he seemed to be an innovator, then he grew very conservative... Don't know if that was because of personel or what...

I give him a vote of confidence. He recruited well here, and he developed Jamarcus Russell from a very raw talent into a formidable D1 QB, no doubt. saban clearly was not an offensive coach, so what you saw was from Fisher. He never got in any trouble we heard about, so I think he's a solid citizen. With Russell, Bowe and Craig Davis, 3 first round draft picks in the 2007 NFL draft, our O performed very well in 06.

There was some discontent over being too conservative on offense at times, and running on 3rd and 12... But who knows what he knew about personnel or defensive tendencies that us fans don't know.

His reign as a head coach will be hard to predict. He has little track record in that area. There is nothing to say he can't be a great one, we just don't know.

    That's my .02.

And welcome to the board! Don't be a stranger, come back and keep us posted. We like to hear about our former personnel. The Bama guys keep us up to the minute on saban happenings! :hihi:

He's overrated as a coach and a jerk as a person.

If he hires a good OC and lets him run the plays he could be a good HC, BUT if Jimbo calls the plays expect more of the same and hope like hell your defense gets better.

He's a very good recruiter and has developed some pretty good QBs in his day. I don't know if it was him or Saban who was conservative, but his offense was predictable. It was pretty funny hearing fans calling the plays from the stands based on our formation. I liked the bubble screen at first, but damn, we wore that play out. I'm still waiting for the fake bubble and going deep to Clayton or Henderson.

I hope he's successful, but not sure he will be.
