do y'all think will make up the rest of the defensive staff? Do you think Les will wait and let Pelini pick or will he go ahead and hire who he wants? According to Guilbeau's article (I know it's Guilbeau), he writes that Miles said all or some of the staff would be announced on Thursday.

The LB coach is confirmed by the same set of sources who confirmed Pelini days ago:

Bradley Dale Peveto (name surfaced weeks ago as being interviewed, but never confirmed)

He is the current DC at Middle Tenn. State. Was co-DC at Houston, and DC at NWSt. La. Has some solid background experience and success, and has experience recruiting in Georgia and of course La. and Tx.

I would like to believe that Miles would let the man hire his own people, because Pelini would be the one working with them more exclusively than Miles anyway!

A former co-defensive coordinator at the University of Houston, Bradley Dale Peveto is in his second season as a member of Andy McCollum's Blue Raider staff. Peveto, who coached the Blue Raider secondary in 2003, was elevated to defensive coordinator in March of 2004.
Peveto, who will also handle the Blue Raider linebackers, recruits central east Georgia.

In four years at Houston from 1999 to 2002, Peveto, who coached the secondary, had four players earn five all-conference awards while three were placed on the league's all-freshman squad. In 1999, the Cougar defense ranked 25th in total defense, 20th in rushing defense and 22nd in scoring defense and tied for 14th nationally with 28 forced turnovers.

In 2001, defensive back Jermain Woodard was a third team Freshman All-American. In 2002, Peveto coached free safety Hank Milligan, who was a first team all-conference performer and a Jim Thorpe and Bronko Nagurski "Watch List" candidate.

Prior to arriving in Houston, Peveto served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Northwestern State (La.) University for three years from 1996 to 1998.

While he was at Northwestern State, Peveto helped the Demons capture back-to-back Southland Football League Championships and NCAA I-AA playoff berths. Peveto's "Purple Swarm" defense was ranked nationally in several statistical categories during each of his three seasons, and four of his players earned All-American honors. In addition, four Demon players were selected in the NFL draft. The 1998 Northwestern State team went 11-3, reached the I-AA semifinals, and was ranked third nationally.

Under his direction, the Demon defense also set single-game records for fewest yards allowed, fewest rushing yards allowed, and most quarterback sacks. Northwestern State also set school season records for most defensive touchdowns scored. In addition, the "Purple Swarm" also set season records for quarterback sacks in two of his three seasons, accumulating 52 in 1998 and 122 in the last three years.

Before his stint at Northwestern State, Peveto spent two seasons on Danny Ford's staff at Arkansas. The Razorbacks were the Southeastern Conference Western Division champions in 1995. While at Arkansas, Peveto served as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach. Arkansas finished 1995 with an 8-5 record and played in the Carquest Bowl.

Peveto went to Arkansas after serving as the outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at Southern Mississippi in 1992 and 1993. He also coached the defensive line, linebackers, and secondary at Stephen F. Austin from 1988 to 1991. He served as the special teams coordinator all four years, and the Lumberjacks led the nation in punt returns in 1989. SFA also won the Southland Conference and advanced to the 1989 I-AA championship game. His SFA secondary was nationally ranked in passing efficiency defense in 1990 and 1991.

A 1987 graduate of SMU, Peveto began his coaching career as a secondary coach at Trinity Valley Community College.

Peveto was a four-year letterman for the Mustangs and played in four bowl games (Cotton, Sun, Aloha, and Mirage). During his playing career, SMU won two Southwest Conference championships (1982 and 1984) and had a combined record of 43-14-1. He served as team captain in 1986 and earned the Wild Mustang Special Teams Player of the Year award and the Mike Kelsey Award for attitude, hustle, and desire as a senior. He also was a member of the 1984 SWC All-Academic team.

Peveto comes from a family with a rich football coaching tradition. His late father, Ed, coached high school football in the southeast Texas area and was inducted into the Greater Houston Coaches Hall of Honor in 1993. Two of his brothers, Jeff and Garey Birt coach at high schools in the southeast Texas area.

Peveto is married to the former Melissa Weser, and the couple has a daughter, Payton Marie, 2.

These coaches really have to move around a lot, huh? Tough life...but I guess many of us would make that sacrifice to have football be our career!

Talking about hiring Peveto before firming up the DC does seem like it's putting the cart before the horse, huh?

And TSDude, I feel your pain...it's soooo frustrating!

I would think that Miles would hire all of the assistants, not a DC or OC. If I were the HC I would definitely hire all of the assistants. Now, I may interview a guy that a coordinator wants or reccomends, but I would have the final say in the matter. If Miles does hire Bo he could be gone in a year, he has toi make sure he has assistants on staff that he wants, not the DC.

It was just announced on local OKC tv that Pellini is indeed going to be at LSU as dc and Peveto is coming with him. Also it was announced that Karl Dunbar wil be the DL coach.
