If Oklahoma wins out and looks good (no lucky Ohio State type victories) but loses in the Big 12 Championship game by a close margin, should they be allowed to be in the Sugar? I would think the BCS computers would still have them in the top 2 but it seems like you should be a conference champ to be in the national championship game. With Nebraska a couple of years ago, it was obvious Oregon was more deserving. Even though Oklahoma would appear to be as deserving as anyone else considering the above scenario, should they be awarded the Sugar if the BCS has them #1 or #2?
if OU keeps winning they could still lose in the Big 12 and be #2 possibly #1 in the computer polls....that is how far ahead they are
To make my question a little more precise, should there be a clause in the formula that says you have to win your conference championship to play in the national championship game (even if the team is obviously one of the best two teams like Oklahoma)? I keep going back and forth with my thinking.
I thought they already fixed that issue after the Nebraska fiasco.. Remember this exact scenario happened with Nebraska, they played in the National Title and did not even win their conference (If I remember correctly they even lost their division to Colorado)
That's what I was wondering, Texastigers. If I remember right, Nebraska was undefeated but lost their last game to Colorado which kept them from even playing in the Big 12 Championship. Everyone complained about it at the time but I wasn't sure if there was a clause added to keep from happening again.
I don't think a clause has been added, but I sure wouldn't be opposed to having one that states that.
