already, and would be going for their fourth in san antonio.

like bob knight told illinois coach to enjoy the raping kids crossing the border to go to indiana.

we must enjoy the raping of duhon to duke and mouton to texas

We wouldn't have 3 NCs with those two. They haven't won those with much more talent at Duke and Texas than they would have here.

We had no shot at Duhon. On his visit to Duke he was led into Cameron Indoor during a Duke home game and the second he appeared those lunatic fans began chanting his name in unison for like 5 minutes straight - Duhon signed shortly after if not immediately. Duke wanted him and Duke got him. A buddy of mine lived with Dunleavy at Duke and he told me it was all planned out for the fans to chant his name via the school paper. Can you imagine walking into that place and hearing your name chanted for that long and that loud?

His mom was also offered a very high paying job near Duke for someone with her skills/experience. I guess that probably happens everywhere but I would be very careful coming off sanctions like we were at the time. The "legal" vs. "illegal" rules can be a grey area sometimes. I wonder if his mom gets to keep the job after he finishes eligibility in about a week?

That does happen everywhere. I remember when Larry Brown gave Danny Manning's father a job as an assistant coach in order to lure the younger Manning to Kansas. The elder Manning's profession before joining the coaching ranks? Try truck driver.

Legal? Sure. Technically, Coach Brown had a right to hire to his staff anybody he felt was qualified, and the NCAA couldn't say "boo" to him about it. Ethical? That's another story.

When Chris Jackson signed with LSU his mom got a high paying job in Baton Rouge that she was unqualified for. That kind of thing goes on everywhere.

I forgot about her. She practically had CJ up on the auction block. She was
threatening to send him to, of all places, Alcorn State (like that was really going to happen) if she didn't get what she wanted. I think getting her the job must have been a compromise of some sort, because that woman was holding out for hard cash.

    Goes on everywhere :(

I have witnessed first hand a particular athlete that was paid while on scholarship, but I have no knowledge of the college recruiting tactics that are reported to be prevalent these days. When I consider this player and all of his cash, there is no reason for me to doubt the stories that I hear and read that describe the different bargains/bribes/deals or whatever you want to call the transactions that schools engage in with future players and their families. What I would be interested in knowing is how many highly sought after athletes, along with their respective families, go about the recruitment process straight up expecting nothing but a scholarship in exchange for their participation in college athletics.

For a university to secure a job for a parent of a prospective student athlete indicates to me that the parent demanded it or at least asked for it. I mean, for a school to offer a mom or a dad a job without being informed or advised that the athlete and/or the parent expected it makes no sense on any level.

Assuming that the posts in this thread are correct, it is clear that large universities are willing to provide jobs for parents of prospective athletes. Then the question is, how many jobs on average are universities providing each year for parents of prospective athletes?

I am not sure we really want to know what all is required by universities and coaches in order to secure the signature of a blue-chip athlete these days. This discussion leads me to believe that a lot more consideration needs to be given to the individual character of the prospective athlete and his/her parents when discussing all that is wrong with college recruiting rather than just making a villain out of university administrations and coaches.
