Georgia won the NC in 1980 during Herschel Walker's freshman year. George Rogers of South Carolina won the Heisman that year despite the fact that Walker not only led the Dawgs to the NC but he had more yards rushing than Rogers that year and he outgained Rogers in head to head competition in a game that Georgia won. Herschel deserved the Heisman that year. He had a great sophomore season but Marcus Allen from USC had a monster year gaining way over 2000 yards. He won the Heisman in 1982 and Georgia had a shot at another NC but Dan Marino shredded the Georgia defense in the Sugar Bowl. No shame in that. Marino is the best pure passer I have ever seen in all my years of watching football.
