In Jan 05 we are hiring a coach with fewer accomplishments and less impressive credentials than the coach we hired in Nov 99 had in Nov 99. That is to say, in Nov 99, Saban had better credentials and more accomplishments than Miles has in Jan 05. I'll support Coach Miles 100 percent, but I would like to know why LSU made this decision.
You and me both. Miles is Gerry Dinardo all over again. Sure, I want a coach that lost 5 of his last 7 games.
And I would like to know why these type of posts are even made. This guy has put a football team who had 1 winning season in 12 years on the map. He will take it to the next level. This type of **** is gonna get old, I can see that now.
It is true that he did make Ok St better. It is true that he has improved Ok St during his tenure there. But let me ask you to answer my question that I asked in my post that started this thread? I doubt that we'll ever get a straight answer to my question, because the answer is something unpleasant . . . we rushed the hire and really only had three candidates in mind, one of which (Del Rio) didn't even show up to his interview.
There are a lot of different types of coaches (in all sports) out there. Some are good at rebuilding, some are good at "just running a clean program" and not pressured to win, some can get a lot of "miles" (no pun intended) out of their players, and some can take a team to a new level. Just hope this fit is good for the situation we have here. Hope Skip will tell it like it is and not give us the company answer. If this new hire is true....
It appears to me that we're already in that position. But hey, I think Miles will recruit the hell out of the area - I just hope he can coach 'em up or has the sense to hire people who can.
I think you've said it before. It's timing and Ferentz, Tedord, Spurrier, and Del Rio didn't want the LSU job. LSU is a great job, but there are coaches at what LSU fans may consider lower programs, who in fact have good jobs and like their situation and consider themselves in position to win a national championship. Cal was only one play away from being in the Orange Bowl and Iowa can go 11-0 in the big ten and play in the title game.
