The official number is 1723... but there's something very odd about that reporting. Think back to all the times you were informed that another soldier or two or three were killed in Iraq... The story always reads something like "A US Marine was killed in Ramadi today when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb" or "four American airmen died today when their helicopter was gunned down by enemy fire." What's common to those stories? Well... I'll tell you... it appears they tell of soldiers killed on the battlefield, only. What about the wounded who are flown away to our hospital in Germany and die there within a day, a week, or a month? Those soldiers, from what I can tell, are NOT BEING COUNTED. How many stories have you heard like "two American soldiers died in our German hospital today. They sufferened wounds a week ago in Ramadi." I suspect that the number of our actual war dead is much greater than 1723.
saltyone, trying to win reputation points from the likes of SabanFan, I see. I'm here to tell you there's more satisfaction in a warm touch from a live person than from some green dot given by a net stranger. Somebody who seeks satisfaction from gang conformity is truly sad.
saltyone is right, i have read over the lists many times with the causes of death. lots of chopper accidents, roadside bombs, car wrecks, rpgs, even a couple who had cancer and died back in the states. it lists everyone.
There is no need for wildass guessing. There are folks who document these things in detail. US Military Casualties = 14,583 Killed = 1,728 Wounded = 12,855 Iraqi Coalition Casualty Count As for Iraqi casualties. Killed = 22,434 to 25,426 Iraqi Body Count
Hell, they even included a guy who committed suicide in the the death toll (this was reported at chron.com b/c the guy was from Houston.)
You really do need to get a job. Rep points for everyone on this thread except for the idiot who started it.
So, red55, I thought you would take care of the "you're a moron" and "you're an idiot"-type posts? If I distrust this government's figures I have every cause to, considering the level of misinformation disseminated, their habit of bribing journalists, the British memoes which prove the war lies, etc... This link shows that of 61 American war deaths in June, only 2 occurred in hospitals. Pardon me if I find that number suspicious. http://icasualties.org/oif/dow.aspx At any rate, you promised in a personal memo that you would take care of personal attacks... but even when saltyone posted TWO, and even when he admitted upfront they were personal attacks, you let them slide. Come on... get a handle on that problem. This is ridiculous.
