I was concerned about Randall entering the season as the starter because of how he has played in the past and the way Saban goes with quarterbacks. I thought that Davey should have been given more of a chance in 2000 to take the job from Booty based on Booty's play and the times that Davey had gotten a chance to play. I think my hunch proved correct. Saban rightfully stuck with Davey and Mauck loyally as starters giving little playing time to the reserves. I was afraid that like the Booty situation Saban would not give the freshmen a real chance to earn the job during the season. Now, what he is doing after two games makes sense to me. Randall has a better knowledge of the position, so if he could be the starter-great. Once we saw that Randall might not be able to get the job done, Saban let Russell prove his worth, which he has. Even though Russell has proven to be the better quarterback, I think that this rotation makes alot of sense. We don't want a freshman from Alabama starting his third game against Auburn in Alabama. It is risky. But, if Saban starts Randall and he plays great, he can keep Randall in and win the game. If Randall is struggling or very average, he can go to Russell like he has in the first two games and it won't be jarring to Randall. Also, Russell will not feel the pressure that he would if he was starting this game, so he may be more relaxed and play better. Incidentally, I see the keys to this game as stopping their run and avoiding turnovers. Our D v. their D. Our Run v. their Run. Our Pass v. their Pass. I think we come out ahead. I will be curious to see how this one shakes out. Lets just hope their isn't a repeat of the Oregon State performance. I doubt there will be. What do you think of what Saban is doing with the quarterbacks? Is my analysis correct?
I think that your analysis is very accurate. I also assume that that is what Saban is doing. If Russell pulls it off and overcomes his nerves, great we ride the wave of the 5th year senior. I think that that is really what Saban wants. I think that he really believes in Randall. And I believe in what Saban believes in!
right i mostly agree. doing it this way saves russel from the pressure of this being "his" team. so he can get experience while knowing he isnt fully responsible yet. you gotta ease them dudes in there.
