So, if they never complained, and I take it you are a democrat, then why do you want government aide now? Just seems hypocritical coming from somebody who has experienced "no excuses" and "no complaints" from ancestors.

I may be caucasian but I do know that my ancestors worked themselves up from the tobacco fields as Italians and I have never heard my parents complain about never going to college or asking for government help during those hard times.

    Exactly.

It would be foolish to say that all racism has been eliminated, but the "the (white) man is holding me down" stuff has got to go. What happened Tuesday night sucked the wind out of the victim-minded's (Jackson, Sharpton, etc.) sails.

I don't know Barack Obama's story, but from what I understand, he came from a poor background and eventually made something of himself to the point where he became our president. That's huge.

While watching his acceptance speech, I felt troublesome because I did not and do not support his liberal policies; however, I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment that this country has come a long way in some aspects. No longer is race an issue on the grand scale.

I would have no problem voting for someone like Michael Steele, Larry Elder, Lynn Swann, JC Watts, etc. It's not the color of the skin I'm worried about but the moral makeup and the principles one holds to. I believe white America proved last night that we, as a vast majority, feel the same way - It's not about race, it's about principle.

When did I say I wanted government aide, id like to see you point that out. I have never been on any kind of government assistance such as food stamps or unemployment, I never collected either. If you want to use scholarships or student loans as an example then fine. But when I bought my house, the government didnt show up and say here is your downpayment. I dont get your post, its misguided. Is it your assumption that I want government help of somekind or just something you want to characterize me with?

I guess because of his skin color and the fact he identifies with the Black culture.

Does racism exist? Yes...always has, always will.

Are we a country of racists? No...obviously a black man was elected as President and the majority of his votes came from white voters.

Will cries of racism continue? Sure...because its works! If you accept no personal responsibility then every failure in your life can be blamed on someone else.

How can we finally end this? Time...giving more handouts, starting more programs, etc. will only continue the self-pity and victimization. Watching other minorities overcome larger hurdles continues to illustrate that many in the black community need to make an effort.

Will successful black citizens influence those who aren't? To a small degree...yes. Those who want to be successful and those who have positive parental influence can look at successful black citizens and follow their lead. Unfortunately there will be many who will continue to blame everyone and never look in the mirror.

What will we see in Louisiana? A mixture...in the rural areas, I think we may start to see more success stories. In New Orleans though...I think we'll still be living with this exact same issue 25, 35, 50 years from now. Racism doesn't force you to have a child at 12...racism doesn't force you to quit school at 15...racism doesn't force you to commit murder at 18. These have more to do with income and education. Some will blame those on racism but as each year goes by less people are buying in to that as a legitimate reason and starting to see it as an excuse.

For the parts of black America that are at the bottom in income, education, etc...it's time to get off of the pot. You're going to miss the boat because many of the programs and set-asides may end in the next few decades and more minorities come to America and achieve success at a much quicker pace.

DISCLAIMER: I know exactly as much of what it's like to be black in America as a black man knows what it's like to be white in America.
