does anyone know when they plan to start building Mike's new habitat. After having made a few donations over the last few years I am wondering when will he get his new place. How close are they on raisng the money---I hope they can start after this season is over.

I read in Purple and Gold that they have raised just over 1.6 million for Mike. The problem is the project is about 4.0 million. Since TAF does not do a buy as you go program they are waiting to get the rest before they start. So I guess I dont have an answer for you. But there was an article in Purple and Gold about it and that is what they reported.
throw in another 640,000 (roughly) after this season..from tickets...and they're more than half way there. if i were rich (pro athlete etc..) i would jump at the chance to build mike a new cage. maybe one of them will?
I first saw the tiger cage when it was just that: a cage. Really didn't think much of it then, but later realized thatn the great cat Mike III lived his entire life on concrete. Tragic. When the current cage was built in the early 80s I was overjoyed at the improvement - but to look at it now, it is woefully inadequate for a big cat. I hope and pray that the new Tiger habitat gets built soon. LSU - and especially Mike - deserve that.
How about buying a few acres out on River Road and giving the Big Cat a few acres to run around in instead of putting him in a cage. Maybe they could get a girl tiger to help Mike produce the next Mike. I'm not a PETA animal rights supporter but Mike the Tiger is not a convict so why should he live like he is a motherraper or fatherraper at Angola? Mike the Tiger is the LSU mascot. Sure, it would be a lot cheaper to call ourselves the Tigers and get an eagle for a mascot like the Auburn TigerEagleWarPlainsmen. Is that what everybody wants? Fine. Just get a Tiger colored housecat. LSU has chosen to keep a live Bengal Tiger as its mascot since Mike I. When was that? in the 30's or 40's? The Tiger is an endangered species. If LSU is commited to the tradition of keeping a live Tiger lets at least give him a quality life.
