I just saw that. My eyes are bugging from staring at the computer today. What a crazy day it has been.

Now I am starting to wonder-with all those great players why didn't he win more?

Why don't you list the players he drafted to Cleveland...when the responsibility to choose and evaluate talent was his completely.

"I like college football, and I like college football because when I talked to my team today, the effect that you have on some of the players, their lives, means something," Saban said, tears in his eyes, voice shaking. "That's why I like college football."

This is why I don't think he is going anywhere. He is a coach of players not a manager of players. He would not get that feeling in the NFL and he knows what that situation involves. That is why he would want FULL control over all team decisions. Huizenga isn't willing to give up that much.

By the way...this was a statement he made after leaving Mich St. and I believe Saban is a man of his word. He is keeping options open but he isn't ready to leave...yet.

Because I have been pessimistic all day and I need a break :)

I get your point though. To me its apples and oranges. Pete Carroll got fired twice and so have plenty of other great college coaches that tried the NFL. I just dont think you can really compare the 2.

that's one sick list. a who's who list and to think that is in 5-6 years only, is incomprehensible. even at miami.

    Clinton Portis(2)
    Najeh Davenport(4)

Can someone freakin tell me what was the question that prompted the mention of Butch Davis?

By the way, the couple bad years during Davis' tenure was becuase Miami was sanctioned and lost a boatload of schollies, so it isn't exactly the same as the other successful coaches. Although he could be the Mack Brown of the then-Big Least.

All this talk of being unsure of his game-day abilities... Anybody have access to how his teams performed against ranked teams? How they performed in their bowls each year?

I would think if you listed the NFL players from JJ, Erickson, and Coker you'd have a similarly impressive list. To a large degree, Miami attracts great athletes because they know they have a history of being looked at by NFL teams in the draft.

I'm not saying Davis isn't a good coach, I'm not saying he's a bad recruiter...but his draft day decisions do not lie. He made horrible choices repeatedly, not one of his drafts have turned out remotely good. In fact subsequent drafts would very often be the exact same positions, because he would need to fix a failed draft from the year before.

This speaks to his evaluation of talent. It doesn't jive with his UM record of players...was it a fluke in college, a fluke in the NFL, did his assistants identify all the great talent at UM and he just recruited them, or did the university attract the talent for him? Combination of one or more of those? Combine that with his complete meltdown of the franchise...where players, front office, and his own coaching staff ridiculed him - and I think we can do much better.

If we hire him so be it, he may very well bring some great classes and teams here...but the way he used deceit and subterfuge at Cleveland to ouster people he disliked, and solidify his power while at the same time giving preferential treatment to complete thugs and draft failures while passing on great players (Green over Portis, anyone? ..one of his own players?) makes me very nervous about him. I'd just much rather not take a risk on his character.

couldn't have said it any better. character is my main issue with davis. that was a less than acrimonious departure for him. how do you run good football minds away like ron wolf and dwight clark? his draft picks have been autrcious (Gerald warren, william green, courtney brown #2 pick) at this point I cannot say that davis is a great recruiter - miami recruits itself. someone please compile a similar list with UF and FSU draft picks for that period. I bet it would look similar. LSU can do better than davis.
